In the deepest parts of ourselves we often seek to avoid the truth about who we really are. We seem to be afraid of the truth, not wanting to really understand what we do, why we do it, and more, what should we think about it... but deeper still lies the bigger question, what does God see, what does HE think about what we do and why we do it. In short, what does God think about us? The answer to that question is found in scripture, it is plain, and it is painful. He hates the wicked, He hates the proud, the arrogant, the boastful. He hates liars, deceivers, violent and angry men. He WILL NOT allow such to remain in His presence. Many will console themselves by asserting that these words do not describe them, that they are not such people, but scripture also answers them... Paul assures us in Romans 3 that we have all sinned and James reminds us that to violate any of God's law is to be guilty of violating ALL. So, how does God view blood guilty rebels? He hates them. But the Psalmist offers hope and promise. He says that he will enter the house of God "in the multitude of His mercy"... think on that, guilty soul. God's mercy is plentiful, is abundant, is multitudinous! His mercy is from everlasting to everlasting, and mercy, dear child, is for those who DO NOT DESERVE IT!!! This powerful truth can only be pressed on us by that same mercy, when God draws us, calls us, saves us and shows us that He IS merciful, that knowledge causes us to run TO Him in repentance instead of continuing in our rebellion. Our hope for forgiveness is God. It is not our worthless works, it is not our persons, not our intentions... it is the mercy of God in the Blood of Jesus Christ! Fly to Him, and find the promised mercy!
