Do you want to work your way to heaven? Do you want to oblige God to save you because of your righteous deeds? Do you want to force the Almighty to acknowledge your superiority to all others? Here is your standard, here is the mark for which to aim... in a word? Perfect. Completely, absolutely, flawlessly, continually, eternally perfect. Never failed on even one of the least points of obedience to the law of God. The simple idea becomes increasingly, impossibly overwhelming when we pause to consider it even for a moment. It means that never once did you allow anger to provoke you to hatred. Never once did you covet anything that belonged to someone else. Never once did you lust. Never once, not even for a millisecond did you give to God anything less than the full and absolute love, adoration, obedience and worship to which He is always due... it means all of this and so much more, because the one who is seeking to keep the law is bound to keep the WHOLE law, and to keep it PERFECTLY. To try and fail is to willingly place yourself under a curse of death... because that is the obligation of the law. Perfect obedience or death. There is no argument, no defense, no plea possible... because payment has been made in the person of Jesus Christ, and to seek some other way is to scorn His sacrifice... there remains no other hope, and all that awaits is eternal punishment and misery. Beloved, abandon the foolish attempt to make an impossible way work, instead, cast yourself upon the mercy of God and find life in Jesus Christ. His mercy and grace is everlasting, and freely offered to all who seek Him!!
