YIA your point is valid. The point I stressed in the wine issue is what does God say about it in His Word. We must go to The Word of God for all truth, not point people to our own opinions or interpretations. We still have it very easy here compared to our brothers and sisters in Christ from around the world. But in many ways they have it better. For spiritually they have nothing but The Word to sustain them, and are freed from the vanity of comfort and temporal securities. John 14:6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 1 Peter 1:23Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. Romans 3:4God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. |

Jim Lincoln wrote: 1 Timothy 5:23 (No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.) ---ESV As Paul said to Timothy. I am a teetotaler by the way. I believe, Jim, the statement was to find scripture that referenced 'wise moderate use', not as-needed medicinal use. Paul didn't say to Timothy, "Drink a glass of strong drink every night to take the edge off, just don't get drunk." Also, we he referencing fermented wine, or unfermented wine? Wine can also be interpreted as just plain grape juice depending on the context, and I can provide scripture to back that up, I don't need 20,000 links to John MacArthur or anyone else of that ilk. |

Proverbs 20:1Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. Proverbs 31:4It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: Proverbs 31:6Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Isaiah 5:11Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them! Isaiah 5:22Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink: Isaiah 24:9They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it. Isaiah 28:7But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, |
