Our 25 year old son is an Army sniper and just got back after 18 months in Iraq. Now he commands a Stryker team. He's 6' 2" and he weighs about 225. I'll tell him you said that.

We have two teenage daughters who are still at home (so having a sniper in the family comes in handy). The youngest finishes high school next year.

All three were homeschooled all the way. My wife is amazing.

My wife (JoAnne) has been a stay-at- home mom since our son was born in 1983. She probably spends $117,000 on clothes alone every year!

When she starts telling me how much a stay-at-home mom is worth, I tell her she's lucky she gets to sleep indoors and eat at the table with the rest of us.

BTW-We've been married for 29 years this coming Monday.

I hope this is taken in the spirit in which it is intended but I have to wonder why in the world GG spends so much time on SermonAudio. I have to wonder why he and other devout Roman Catholics would be so interested in the goings on here. GG is certainly as entitled as anyone else to be here and I am in no position to suggest otherwise.

But ask yourself this: If he and Lance are such hardcore RCs, why in the world are they so interested in what is being said on a website that is so clearly of a strictly protestant/reformed persuasion? Are there no RC sites with interesting sermons, information and discussions for them? If so, why are they not there? What is it that keeps them so involved in the discussions here? What could possibly cause two men who are so obviously well versed (and rehearsed) in RC doctine and history to be so enamoured with the protesant/reformed theology SA is saturated with. Almost everything on this site flies in the face of all they appear to consider sacred. Many here consider them to be deceived men and heretics. Why does GG bother with discussions that cause him to become truly fighting mad to the point of dragging his mother into the discussion?

I'll bet I know the answer but they will both deny it for obvious reasons.

Pastor Slattery makes some excellent points.

The person or group that defines the terms of the argument always controls (and ultimately wins) the war.

There is, indeed, no such thing as a homosexual. If there were, the argument could be made that they are "born that way" and that is exactly the argument that they make. Hence, they appear to be winning the war and God will judge this nation severely for allowing it.

I will not permit Oprah and the show biz elite to define anything for me. To them, anyone who doesn't agree with their devilish propoganda is labeled as a bigot, racist or intolerant. Pointing out the error of sodomy or popery, however, does not make you a bigot. It makes you right.

They are not homosexuals and they are not "gay". They are sodomites because they commit sodomy. That's what Scripture calls them. It's not an "alternative lifestyle". It's satanic perversion.

Popery is not Biblical. It's idolotry.

I prefer to let God via Scripture define the terms of the argument just as Pastor Slattery is doing. God is always right, 100% of the time.

John Yurich:

1. Nobody cares what your "Non Denominational" brother thinks, says or does.

2. Roman Catholics are idolators. They are a cult of idolators.

3. The RCC is the biggest, most heretical, idolatrous cult in the history of earth. They are a man-made distortion of Biblical truth.

"And if one does not know the original (Greek & Hebrew) texts, who is he to judge what is corrupt and what is not with a reliable degree of accuracy?"

Do you know the original Greek & Hebrew texts? If so, great. If not, using your own logic, how do you know which texts to trust? You, too, would be trusting in the scholarship of men who's theology is at best shaky if not downright heretical.

The basic text used to translate the AV has been around (and trusted) for centuries. The text base of the NIV, NASB, etc. is very recent, downplays the deity of Christ and has been put together by men who by their own admission don't believe half of what Scripture records or teaches. Read some of the writings of Kurt Aland and Bruce Metzger. Their own writings, not just what others say about them. If these men are believers, I'm a nuclear physicist. I would not trust them or the texts they produce.

There is nothing wrong with the KJV/AV. It's a sound, accurate and trustworthy translation of God's Word in English. I cannot say the same thing about the NASB.

OK-I'll happily tell you exactly what you should do. I've raised & homeschooled 3 kids and I know countless others who have done the same, often under tough circumstances.

GET YOUR SON OUT OF THE GOVERNMENT SCHOOL TODAY.

Teach him at home yourself at night (or whenever you are off work).

If you don't want to do that, appeal to your church or another church to assist you with paying for sending him to a Christian school.

Find a Christian school that understands your circumstances and will offer your son a scholarship or partial scholarship. If your situation is as dire as you describe (why did you & your wife go to different churches?), I'm sure a church sponsored Christian school would be happy to help you. Churches often help widowed parents with paying for school and well they should.

If that doesn't work for you, get a second job or another job that pays better.

I know folks who have done all of these things. It's just a matter of deciding what's important. Your son would be better off not going to school at all than attending a government school.

Your son is your responsibility and I firmly believe no child from a real Christian home should EVER be involved with or indoctrinated by the government schools. I'd sooner send them into a sewer.

Great point. I agree but I don't believe that will ever happen.

What amazes me is the way that the Pope of Rome is so clearly and vocally against most of the moral positions that the mainstream media is obviously slanted in favor of and he favors so much of what they are against, yet he somehow remains strangely above ANY criticism at all. He's spoken of as though he's some god-like visitor from another planet. It's almost as though folks are hypnotized.

It has been absolutely sickening this week to listen to our local newscasters refer to him over and over again as 'the holy father'. What blasphemy.

The problem is not whether or not the teacher keeps a Bible in the classroom or whether or not there is a Koran there.

The problem is that anyone would be foolish enough to send a child from a Christian family into a government school.

Government schools ar not just neutral to the things of God. They are outright hostile to them.

Christian parents should never, ever send their children into one of these humanistic indoctrination day care centers.

"So what are all of YOU ---who condemn the multitudes for reading the NIV, ESV, NASB, HCSB, (basically, the anything besides the KJV)--- going to do WHEN YOU SEE John Piper and many in heaven ?"

I have yet to see where anyone here has condemned anyone for the Bible version they read. Many, however, DO (appropriately) condemn many of the modern versions because a very good argument can be made that they are corrupted in a number of areas.

How is that condemning anyone?

Are you in Japan? I don't think anyone would expect someone in Japan to read the King James Bible in Engish if English is not their primary language. It would be wise, however, to choose a version in your own language that's based on the MT/TR.

Do you feel 'condemned' by that logic? If you do I would suggest you turn off Oprah and go read your Bible.

The divorce rate in America went up as the number of women abandoning their homes and children to enter the work force went up.

When I was growing up in the 1960s, a divorce in the community that I lived in (typical middle class suburbia) was considered scandalous. By the 1980s, it was rare to meet someone who had not been divorced.

So do child molesters and serial killers. Sadly, those behaviors tend to make sane people not want to associate themselves with those folks who CHOOSE to engage in those behaviors.

BTW-Could you please plainly define hatred? Could you also clearly define bigotry?

I apologize in advance for being so graphic but I do not allow men who entertain themselves with other men's digestive tracts into my home. I do not want them around me for a number of very valid reasons and I certainly do not want them around my wife and daughters.

"I believe there should be more people in the world like James Dobson. Focus on the family has displayed the christian life to the unchurched and has been instrumental in bringing wayward christians back to the Lord."

Please explain how James Dobson has ever displayed the Christian life to anyone at anytime. How has anything that James Dobson has ever said or done brought any wayward Christian back to the Lord?

For 30 years James Dobson has infiltrated the Christian church with worldly, pagan psychology and self-esteem philosophy. He has ruined families by appealing primarily to women's emotions and their perceived 'unmet needs'. It has spread like cancer and the results have been devastating.

I have never, EVER, heard James Dobson present the Gospel and I have heard very little from him that could ever be considered even remotely sound Biblical teaching. For the last 15 years or so he has decided that it's his responsibility to 'transform the culture' through laws and legislation.

Any good that James Dobson has ever accomplished is severely overshadowed by the devastating harm he has done. James Dobson is a dangerous, dangerous man and a coward.

The same thing happened with Kodak, Delta, Levi Strauss and many others.

One day you read that they are offering benefits for 'domestic partners' and contributing money to fruitcake groups. The next thing you know, they are struggling for survival.

When in the world has James Dobson ever preached the gospel?

Other than the CCM pimps, I believe James Dobson has done more harm to Christians, Christain marriages and Christian families than anyone else in the past 25 years.
