Calvinism/Reformed theology is the proper view and interpretation of scripture. The moment someone declares his choice over the sovereign choice of God (no matter the linguistic gymnastics) has wandered from biblical accuracy.
It's rather simple; it comes down to who or what enables anyone to choose God? Yes, there is a choice, but what is the choice based upon; man's autonomous ability to choose or God's enabling power and choice to draw man to Himself?

Kiev from SAN Diego,
That was a succinct but solid response to J4J. Scripture does not equivocate or is vague concerning God's sovereignty over salvation. The moment we begin to hold our choice above and beyond God's own, we unfortunately tread into error.
Good post.

This president does the same theological contortionist act that all Armininians perform; mainly, state it is ALL God's work of salvation, BUT we must choose (work). If I can CHOOSE Christ, then I could have CHOSEN to follow the law. Man is DEVOID of innate ability to choose good ( God only being good) therefore must be MADE able to choose. Man's choosing God in Christ is preceded by God's own choice of the elect.

Angela,
It's not that everyone is desperate for Jim Lincoln to join the GOP. It's more of a questioning why, no matter the subject of a political article, Mr. Lincoln positions himself in a defensive posture for Hillary Clinton and a "Trump is worse" stance.
Plus, your reasoning is really wanting. The notion that congress will "true her hands" is planted in thin air. Further, who is of an upright heart and blameless as an incumbent or candidate that is worthy of our vote? For example, the line of thought here in Ohio is "vote for Portman so the GOP can hold the Senate." Well, Mr. Portman supports sodomite "marriage". But he is the only Senator who stands in the way of Ted Strickland; an open borders, Federally funded abortions, sodomite marriage, transvestites using whatever bathrooms they wish, and the stifling of the church.
Do you realize that King David had Bathsheba's husband murdered AFTER he had an adulterous affair with her? Yet, he was GOD's chosen leader of His people. Paul imprisoned and held the coats of those who murdered Stephen, yet he wrote a majority of the NT. We ALL are fallen, but God uses ALL for the sake of his people. Maybe Trump as well.

The sodomite brown shirts trying to block out the blinding sun of reality. Sad, wretched disposition of a lifeless soul. I am praying for them.

Jim Lincoln,
Sir, your use of scripture is quite appalling. To say being in the military is unbiblical is wanting of any true CONTEXTUAL biblical validation.
When Jesus commended the Roman soldier on his faith did he add a "but, he is a soldier, therefore he cannot truly be my disciple"? Of take King David, he certainly shed blood and was a military leader, yet, wasn't he God's chosen and a significant ancestor to Jesus? Further, the Scripture tells us to remain in the calling in which we were placed, even AFTER conversion.
Your thinly veiled liberal theology and worldview are on constant display here. Why is it you use the scripture and the Christian faith as a cloak? These do hide but actually expose your true identity and bent.

John UK,
1 Corinthians 9 Paul uses his extensive understanding of sports training to make a biblical point. I believe the inference is that he actually viewed, willingly, these events.
You make a very serious point as it relates to Super Bowl viewing on the Lord's Day IN the sanctuary. That runs off course of biblical living. Much like the likelihood of churches shutting down this Advent season because December 25th falls on a Sunday.

John UK,
Paul's writings are full of references to sport. I specifically like the wrestling and running references. He used these references based on viewing experiences. He knew about the "Stephanos" or wreath given as a sport achievement reward because he used it in contrasting our running for the perishable and imperishable. I do agree with Jeremy, as long as we do NOT set sport on the throne that belongs to Christ ALONE.

This "petition" is one set of heretical pigs calling Trump and his supporters dirty hogs.
It is one thing to denounce Trump's boorishness and vulgarity on moral grounds, but quite another thing to do so WHILE positively supporting abominable behavior as these "evangelicals" do.

What the media, intellectual, political, and other "elites" do not grasp, or readily suppress, is Trump is not a figure to dissect, but a symbol of a growing dissonance between above and regular citizens.
Those who are voting Trump are voting for a razing of the Establishment. They know Trump's soiled history, but also know what he has come to represent...indignation towards those who have made is career out of political theater that has done more for the hypocrites (actors) than for whom they act.
Though I disagree with him on most things pertaining to reality, I have to agree with Michael Moore when he stated that Trump " is a human Molotov cocktail."

Gay Allen,
There is something here that should be clarified. Mocking someone and mocking the devil's religion are chasms apart. The former fits yours and Rnel's perspective, the latter is standing against falsehood through mockery.

Rnel from S. Africa,
1 Kings 18: 25-27. Elijah mocked the "prophets" of Baal.
God himself mocks the man who uses some wood for fire then uses a piece of the same wood to craft an idol to worship.

"So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord. And He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth Peor; but no one knows his grave to this day." (Deut 34: 5-6)

God will not have bodies of saints turned to idols by the desires of men.

Time magazine is grasping for relevancy. The author's examples are heavily left leaning "victims" and begrudgingly admits trolls exist on the secular humanist side.
The problem of trolls is not found in their political leanings, but in their failure and inability to recognize truth or articulate their point or argument. Ad Hominem is the tool of choice on social media and the MSM.
Of course, there are a group of people who just want to "watch the world burn" as Michael Caine's character in Batman observed.

Punch drunk,
You seem to have not read your own quoted excerpt in context.
Luther hated God's law, as we ALL do, because he tried as a mere monk to live up to it, Until, praise God, he re-read Romans 1:17 with spiritual eyes and understanding. He understood that it is God's GRACE that save and sustains man until the end. Hence his obvious hyperbolic statement of sinning. He's not antinomian, he's affirming the sufficiency and worth of Grace through Christ.

John UK,
I understand your point, yet the scriptures do say that whether you eat or drink or whatsoever you do, do to the Glory of God.
This reminds me of the chap in the film Chariots of Fire. His sister was exhorting him that God had made him to be a missionary. He responded that God had made him a fast runner as well; and said "when I run I feel his pleasure".

Connor,
Your statements are correct, but you should know the fallen are blind to the truths you present. Great reminder nonetheless.
