My grandaughter is being homeschooled. My daughter wouldn't have it any other way. Shehas my FULL support. She would NOT have her daughter vaccinated either. I have 5 children myself from 17, 18, 23, 26, 31. Neither of them have been vaccinated. I am STRONGLY against it. If you research it you will find it is just a government money making. I have written quite a few articles on the subject. Read them on my website www.dare2baware.com and read about homeschooling on my daughters www.home-schooling-uk.com

We homeschooled our 3 children right through to the 12th grade, and I am happy to say that they are all well-adjusted contributing members of society, and people who love the Lord and want to serve Him.

I've had the same experience in a few churches regarding opposition to homeschooling. Mostly it's been with churches that run a Christian school. They seem to fear that if the idea of homeschooling infiltrates their church, parents will pull their kids (and their financial support) out of the church school & teach them at home.

As far as homeschooling in the UK, I have a friend there named David Norris who publishes an excellent Christian magazine called Dayspring and the most recent issue is all about public or government education vs. Christian schools and homeschooling in the UK. I'm sure he would be happy to send anyone a copy who's interested. You can access his website here:

I want to know, too, esp. since there's less regulation of homeschooling in the UK than in many of the US. And such liberties as we do have are always at risk in the next state legislative session. Opposition to homeschooling in the US runs deep, & not just among the elite. I'm surprised at the number of churchgoers I've met over the yrs. who either have doubts about it, or simply don't care.

Ref: www.home-schooling-uk.com

But I suspect that if more Britons homeschooled, it would be more regulated. Perhaps there are not enough fleas to be worth catching (recall the Turkish proverb: "An Englishman will burn his bed to catch a flea").

Sue Sue, just one comment. Look at what our public schools are producing and tell me who is crazy; parents who choose to home-school their children so that they can learn about the Bible or parents who send their children to a place hwere they learn that a sodomite marriage is "normal", condoms can be gotten for free, and if they don't get sick or die from a sexually transmitted disease, they can have a fellow student shoot them! Its' a no-brainer for me, and I don't even have a college degree (unlike those public school baby-sitters!)

Is it mentally healthly to home school
and not let them have any outside
interaction with other children or
teenagers? I know of such a case and
am just concerned for these young
people when they are forced into this
cruel wicked world.... Can we really
protect our children to that point
and not expect disaster??? These
parents think their children are
guaranteed SALVATION and have said
that just because they are being
home schooled... In my opinion these
parents have demonstrated mental problems and are causing great damage
to their children (not because of
home schooling but because of complete
separation from others). Just curious
if there are any comments.
Thank you.

As a member of the Armed Forces serving in Korea, I was faced with the stark reality that I had no choice but to home school my children since we lived in a location where there was no english speaking school. After a short time my wife and I noticed that the pro's greatly outweighed the cons. I was rediculed at work for not allowing my children to become "socialized" until the day that the columbine (I think that's how they spell it) shooting happened. Since then, no one spoke of "socialization" again.
And by the way, my son went on to graduate from a very large (5000 students) christian school where he was "social" enough to be voted as the president of his collegian. And by the way, both he and my daughter turned out to be very well adjusted, well-balanced, and most importantly, GODY.

Coora:
You had probably the best possible "public" education. However, homeschool is by definition: at home, in home, through home, by home.

What is a home? Another survey opportunity.

from Father (a public school teacher) of 5 home schooled children.

My father was the only teacher in the local school, when I was educated. He taught me along with my brother and about 15 to 25 other children until I was 12yr. Does this count as home schooling? After that I attended two different secondary schools - a girl's school for 3 years and then a very small high school for the remaining two before going to tertiary education.

Since then I have taught all four of our children for various lengths of time in the state system.

Kenny,or whoever else wants to know...the reason why Ritalin (and other similar drugs) are being prescribed in record numbers to kids is because the FDA has classified it as a "pschotropic" drug. Also, under Bush's education policy; he has attempted to have all children in the State-church system (public schools) undergo a psych eval.
Why is this a big deal? Well first it's a violation of privacy. Second, under the first draft, parents weren't even going to be told. Third, most behavioral "issues" with children in the State-church are dealt with by shoving ritalin down their throat.
Why is that a big deal? As a pschotropic, the the anti-gun nuts have pushed through legislation that states "if you've EVER taken a pschotropic drug you may not own a gun or weapon that must be registered."
First the Fedgov wants to use our kids as lab rats with vaccinations (knowing the various long-term/side effects) and now it's Ritalin/no guns. The kids are too hyper because they're packed in like sardines in a prison-like building, after going to thru a metal detector, trying to avoid getting beat up or made fun of, with no support from the humanist teachers. Their answer: drug 'em up. Some schools may be better; but why would I send my child to feed his mind at the vomit trough 40 hrs/wk?

My parents homeschooled me from the seventh grade on and I thank God for it. I was a child that appeared to need a lot of socialization but time showed that what I needed was an education. Not only are public schools a sest pool of humanism, they are social clubs! What a wast of tax payer money. Where did the American government get the right to educate our children????????? Not the constitution. I wish that Uncle Sam would do his job - provide protection from foreign countries and criminals and leave my family alone!

I am in no way an anti government person. I proudly served 7 years in the army - one of them in Iraq. The problem is that there is an element in our country that seemingly wants to destroy families and replace them with government programs and it is a shame that we are letting them do it. Government is a great God given institution when it is in it's rightful place.

Good for you Americans! If I had children I would hate to send them to the public school because they are taught evolution, immoral sex is ok just use condoms, we have to save poisonous snakes from extinction and not to worry about having your unborn baby shred to pieces in a public hospital. And of course to encourage the kids to read they have brought Harry Potter into the schools as well. The first 5 volumes are already available in German. Unfortunately home-schooling is illegal (!) in Switzerland and there is only one single Bible-based Christian school I know of in the Northeastern part of our country. Never take your rights for granted dear American brethren. There are many things ( homosexuality, other religions, cults etc.) you could not even preach against in a church building here without getting into SERIOUS trouble.
