I have spent the last few weeks investigating this so I can see what is going on and it would be worth investigating Rick Warren and associated "church growth" authors in the light of books written by Alice Bailey, Annie Bessant, H G Wells to name a few occultists. The language of the Purpose books are serious loaded with all the terms and language of such books and books like the Aquarian Conspiracy etc.
Alice Bailey herself said that the church was to be a primary vehicle through which the New World Order would be set up and preached.
I conclude that the church has been infested with high ranking occultists over the last 80 years. Almost all prominant christian ministers and authors are seriously duped by such or are such. I believe Rick Warren to be such.
I was wrong originally saying it was a waste of time to read. It has shown me how far down Alice Bailey's road the church has gone.
Hold fast to that which you have.
I have now gotten about half way through the Purpose Driven Life along with the rest of the board. While it is not a perfect book, we are all favorably impressed. Thursday, July 15, 2004
There are a few instances where he takes a verse out of context but this is not the pattern of the whole book. July 27, 2004
My former Pastor did agree with me that there was problems...he felt he could correct them as he went along. I could not participate...so I moved my membership to an independent Baptist Church.
The church my wife attends is an Anglican Church and they did the "40 days of Community" thing. I had nothing to do with it, but now knowing that it comes form the Purpose Driven Life, I am concerned that this church is one of the many being dragged by mainstream Christianity.
I will have to go over the program and do some work regarding for the benefit of those on the outskirts but are getting drawn into gravitational pull of this black hole of 21 Century Christianity.
A good message on Sermon Audio might be of interest to you by Dr Scott Johnson regarding Ghost writers.People like Billy Graham have had it done and some of the Christian books written today are Ghost written by Atheists and Homosexuals with the name of a "famous" Christian pinned to the front.
With all our reading we know less than we did 100 years ago.And like what they do with the scriptures, drown out the truth with a plethora of other dubious at best and wicked at worst translations, they are also coving their bases with works by Christians, to ensure good godly works are also not read.
I think this is the hand of God acting to wake up those who are conscious to perceive that the only way to know God is to read His Word, pray and seek His face and ask Him for understanding and not the wisdom of man.
As useful as some books may be, I think we have mode them more important than the very Word of God.
The problem is not with people reading the "Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren, the problem is with those who refuse to see and acknowledge and Biblically refute and reject the subtly false and often openly false, yet very false, teachings of this popular religious celebrity but still one of the foremost false teachers of this day.
btw when Obama visited Saddleback and many urged that he not be allowed to speak because of his pro-abortion record, Rick Warren despite this had him speak and claimed he would make a good President. Now if Obama is elected will Rick Warren become some new kind of Billy Graham to give a venear of Christianity to yet another ungodly Whitehouse? We will see.
And even a lot of the good books remaining are written by authors who see God's Law as a guide for Christian morality, but not for society's. The Ten Commandments are viewed as the law in exclusion to Biblical Case laws. The Ten Commandments are not the Law! They are a summary of the Law.
There were some Doug Wilson books there, but that's a different topic entirely.
This may seem like nitpicking, but it makes the difference between reading something by Thomas Brooks or Samuel Rutherford and these soft PCA-type guys.
Trite. Empty. Vapid. Ignorant. Immature. Fluff. Those are the best adjectives I can use to describe it.
Jer 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
"Woe unto America! Many of our nation's highest leaders worship Satan, and are willing servants of EVIL. They are controlled by Satan, the god of this world (2nd Corinthians 4:4). Satan controls these men through the occult (i.e., "hidden" organizations). Jesus said "in secret have I done nothing" (John 18:20), because He had nothing to hide. Why the secrecy from our nation's top leaders? It's because they are of the Devil." see link

So is Richard Land, head of the Southern Baptists.
And all the big name evangelicals belong to Moonie front groups and most take money from Moon as well.
As you know, Moon says he is the Messiah, and Jesus was a fraud and a failure.
Modern Christianity is a RACKET!
Full of lies and heresies.
"We are grateful to the Washington Post, the New York Times, Time Magazine, and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But now the world is more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supra national sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries." - David Rockefeller, Private Banker, CFR, June 1991

"It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning." - Henry Ford
It was the money changers in the Temple that made Jesus angry.
Furthermore, I found it fascinating that the first line of the book tells the reader "it's not about you", and then every page thereafter tells the reader the opposite.
Rick Warren's and Bill Hybel's drivel is bad theology at best and poison to the church at worst.
I have attended a number of "Purpose Driven" churches over the last few years and without exception, the PD model eroded the spiritual core of the church. The externals were great, and the church grew in numbers. But the spiritual center of the church rotted away. I have known a number of street evangelists who make a point of handing out tracts and preaching the Gospel outside of some of these "churches". Almost without fail, the churchgoers are completely ignorant of the Gospel - but they hear great sermons on the family!
And they call us extremists!
Personally, if someone I looked up to was eating babies, I would be all for the government prescribing a bullet for the sicko!
That is a pretty sick thought you had going there Scott.
Rick Warren is a man, he is by that very fact going to have flaws. Show me a perfect man, and I will already know His name, Jesus Christ.
I don't spend time dissecting Rick Warren's life. That, to me, would be a worthless waste of time. I spend my time becoming more like Jesus Christ. That is worth it all.
PS - Read the book. I couldn't care if RW ate babies for breakfast. The theology is still sound.
