Yes Michael, you are correct. Those views are pervasive, and it's very frustrating. We just have to keep demonstrating the truth from scripture and being willing to stand for what is right.

I don't know if you have ever observed it but there is an outright discouragement of anyone being involved in politics or serving in government among some in both the Fundamentalist or Reformed camps. What I would attempt to describe as, with the first things are going to get worse and worse just hang on till the rapture and with the second it is all predestined by God and it is somehow sinful to get involved to labor to change anything.

Why shouldn't a Christian run for office. Godly men are needed to rule from the mountains of the world.

The problem lyes in the fact that that Christian better be called to operate in that function because they are going to have to walk through the mine field of secret societies, God haters, conspirators, and be well aware who is trying to pull their strings through advisors.

In fact they would have to be willing to have faith in Christ to help them dodge the bullet (real not metaphorical) intended to shut them up, and have a clean past or they will be shot down in some scandal leaked to the press.

I truly believe a Christian is most needed to run for political office, but unfortunately I have to also add that if they succeeded I would be very skeptical as to what sort of Christian they were. (Though God can do as he pleases and perform miracles eg: in Daniel the three Jewish children came out of the fire not even smelling of smoke)

I would also say NO if they were operating at the behest of a religious organization.

I would say that there is only a couple of exception I would add 1]If he is a Pastor of a Bible believing church or called to the ministry. I would say yes to Christian laymen. Thank You, Yours in Christ

I always thought being born again meant to be "regenerated from above"... like having your whole nature changed. Like being a new creation. Oh well, so much for fundamentalism... I guess no one really gets it. I don't recall ever hearing Jesus tell his disciples to run for the Senate of Rome.

I think Mr J has hit on a good point where the very frame work of the question is flawed.
By using the term Born Again leads us into a quagmire of confusion.

The participants of the mystery religions call themselves born again for they have an inverse ceremony.

Members of the Skull and Bones like the Bushes have been through this ceremony and when George W Bush was asked if he was a Christian his interesting response was "Yes I have been born again."
Hmm Mr bush that wasn't the question.

How many US presidents have said they are Born Again?
How many of them were involved with secret societies.

If someone just claims to be born again and leaves it at that, get sus mighty quick. Things are not what they ever appear.

That's right Bernard! Jesus Christ, the king of the universe, now reigning in heaven is going to get a huge promotion and is going to reign on a human throne in a sandpit called Israel. You have to disregard Peter's whole Pentecost sermon to believe this, but hey, you have to disregard a lot of the Bible to believe this. "My kingdom is not of this world!"

May I suggest that there is an apparent contradiciton between the two sentences I've quoted? Christ is not reigning on an earthly throne, but will come to be physical king on the earth?

If "God is in control", must he choose only unbelievers to run the world?

One of the greatest prime ministers of the Netherlands was Abraham Kuyper - who was also a professor doctor of Reformed Theology. But I think the question is wrong. So many call themselves "born again" believers, as if here is any other kind.
To be 100% committed to Christ, His Word and His commendments (which is the ONLY hallmark of true Christianity) and to be a politician in this world, would require the ability to walk a tightrope with balance Blondin would have envied. The rulers and princes of this world are united in their hatred and their opposition of God's kingdom (Psalm 2). To be voted into office while keeping your Christian integrity intact would require a miracle. But almost every American politician (and a few Aussie ones) profess to be Christians. But their fruits show them to be nominal Christians at best.

The only reason a christain needs to run in politics is to engage in conversation with the false converts and unbelievers who are apart of government and preach the Only Gospel that we have missed the mark deserve God's Wrath and we should be thrown in hell and forgotten about, But God is Love just as much as he is prefectly Holy and JUST and has provided away for us to be Holy by the Wrath We Desered was pour out on his dearly beloved Son in our place it was my SIN'S (adultry, lying, lust, fornication and lack of love for him and obedience, living for my will and not for the will of my God)Anything else is of no value to the Unsaved. By the preaching of the Word come faith. You may be fired or impeached But as of now you want have to die for your obedience as others have been murder for preaching this Gospel the only Gospel for the is no other.

Jesus,"Romans 13
1. Let every soul be in subjection to the higher powers: for there is no power but of God; and the [powers] that be are ordained of God.
2 Therefore he that resisteth the power, withstandeth the ordinance of God: and they that withstand shall receive to themselves judgment.
3 For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. And wouldest thou have no fear of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise from the same:"

Neil, I see no mention about Christians or Jews in civil government. No, Christ is not reigning on an earthly throne! God is in control, and when Christ returns for the Millennium, then he will be the physical king over the earth.

As long as a "Christian" is quite flexible, and doesn't let his conscience bother him on the "little" things then of course he can be a politician.

Jesus was biblical...and he ended up being the KING (the highest of all political offices)

imo, it's absurd to think that a Christian could not be in political office.

What makes what we do biblical?
I do a job that is totally unbiblical. Nehemiah also did a job that was unbiblical. Rehab-yep she was also doing an unbiblical job. What was biblical about carpenty or tent making?
Have we all got to be fishermen? What about Zachius, how biblical was his job!!!
The door to my job was opened by the holy spirit-He has used me as a watch-man. He has used me to support the unsupported. He has used me to challenge society. He has used me as a light in a dark place. If he calls you somewhere, then its biblical-If you try to walk away and he hasnt told you too, then you are unbiblical.
I think a little old lady who worked in a liquor shop could be doing a biblical job, if she was called to do it-Like she could witness the gospel and give out tracts and love herclientele-Perhaps she would be in a better strategic position than 99% of pastors!

Hi derek
Only the people of God can intervene in the direction of a nation
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves

Amen
If I may you are wrong on one thing.
The condition of a nation is determined by believers, not unbelievers

Change that to read
is determined by Unbelievers, not believers

If my people
You may be humble, I may be humble, but not most who claim to be His people.
And His people love it so, for what is the "churches", it really bothers me to use that word for what the world calls them, christians, agree. Just call them denominations, and light and dark will agree to disagree.
The number of christians is very clear in the Bible, FEW
How many are few
Someone asked Jesus, will there be few
Where??

"no Scofield did not say anything about Jews"

You've must be kidding! You know, the author of the Scofield Reference Bible notes, the most influential popularizer of Dispensationalism?

"I would think it would be near impossible for a Christian (bible-believing) to be a politician"

So why is it possible for a Jew to be a good politician? What special abilities does he possess? Leon Trotsky was a Jew...

The rest of your post seems to ramble away from my point.

Neil, no Scofield did not say anything about Jews. I would think it would be near impossible for a Christian (bible-believing) to be a politician. It would not even be the big compromises that he would run into, but the day to day ones, that would be like a 1,000 cuts bleeding them to death.

Well, in effect our history, has made us co-partners in leadership, this why I can't see where we can be completely quiet on who we should support. We always have to be of the mind that God does the ultimate choosing, but that doesn't mean we are suppose to be silent about evil. I go to a Church which doesn't believe in mixing religion with government, I do try to refrain from criticizing current leaders, what good will it do, anyway? I can criticize past leader s like Clinton, as leaders as bad examples, and perhaps on what may be future ones, giving out a warning akin to Ezekiel, but as the booklet, ]]Rendering To Caesar: A Biblical Perspective On Government, says all leaders are picked by God, so attacking past or possibly future ones, is a "make me feel good" exercise, Hey it's the American Way!

That wasn't my point at all, Jim. And it is very odd to hear that "good" Jews are fit for office, but never Christians. Must be the Scofield "earthly" vs. "heavenly" people false dichotomy at work.

In which case, why do you continually opine on primary candidates? Shouldn't we leave voting to the Jews, too?

Why yes, Neil, I think a good Jew would make a good politician. Compromise is always a part of a democratic government, look at how much trouble Ian Paisley is having, and he is trying to walk the straight and narrow. Christians should stay out of politics, ]]Rendering To Caesar: A Biblical Perspective On Government, and ]]The Believer and Politics. Even Charles Spurgeon, would say that politics would take a back seat, q.v.,]]Our Gifts and How to Use Them.
