A person who lives in sin or wants to approve of it will quote Matt 7:1 "Judge not that you be not judged." How often have I wished this verse were not in Scripture because it is so misused.

For example, if one judges in saying, "that person is living in open rebellion to God, (for the sake of argument let's say it is an on-going immoral relationship), and refuses to repent; therefore, he cannot be a Christian." The person saying that is then judged to be intolerant, and not in accordance with the Scripture that says, "judge not, that you be not judged." How's that for illogical reasoning?

However, if you quote John 7:24 "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment," they do not want to hear that. They want to err on the side of tolerance for sin and use "judge not, that you be not judged" to justify their position.

It shows that the hearer is not in a right relationship with God, because he/she holds to Scripture that justifies, while discarding the Scripture that provides balance.

greetings...

Merrill, cheryl, and all

What I am wondering is why no one has used the verse:
"A spiritual man judges all things, but is rightly judged by no one." I COR 2:15

This means, I can judge the situation for how it affects me, but not the person.

You never know what a person is going through. There is no telling what is driving their intentions, thoughts, succeses, and failures. Situations themselves are of a different nature and are driven by circumstances. Christian or not. The only thing is the Christian is better equipped to handle pressure. But that is no guarantee that the person, Christian or not, will utilize the Holy Spirit and be victorious in any situation.

So, therefore, like merrill said, "If it affects you, then you ought to make a deal about it."

But remember, the scriptures also say, "As much as depends on you, live peacably among all men."

Hi Well yes it is right to judge, but no it is not right to judge!! Do not judge someone for eating meat! Do not judge someone for new moons or Shabbat! But it does say if your brother offend you, tell him. So yes you can judge in some issue and in others you can not! So i answered sometimes, but it Yeshua said "judge not". But we have to protect our boundries! If it affects you then sure be critical, if it is just someone else and nothing to do with you then NO! Pray for them that they may come to repentance and learn not to be outside the Word of life.

Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!
1 Corinthians 6:2-3

For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God's judgment seat. 11It is written: " 'As surely as I live,' says the Lord,'every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.'So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way.
Romans 14:9-13

The problem in judging is knowing what we can judge and what we should not judge. If a bother is living in sexual immorality...then it should be judged (1 Corinthians 5). If it is false doctrine from a false teacher it should be judged (2 Corinthians 11:1-4). But it is a matter of the timing of the rapture, which Bible translation we prefer, going to movies, hair or skirt lengths ect. then we should show grace and love.

Ex. 18:22, 26
Prov. 31:9
Luke 7:43

The question isn't clear. If it is read literally, the answer must be yes.

The Vitriolic diatribe which we keep receiving from those who identify themselves as quote, "fundamentalist" unquote, demonstrates hearts of hate filled venom.

If this is the witness and testimony they would bring to the world and the society at large, then one things for absolute certainty, - THEY CAN'T BE True Christians.

Praise God for His grace filled Reformed Church.

John 8:15-16: "Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me."
Many say that we shouldn`t judge anything but it`s wrong because God hates evil and it has to be judged. Many people judge all the time but without any love and they judge by their own measurement and it`s wrong too.Jesus didn`t judge people according to human measurement, but according to what the Father told him.We shouldn`t judge after the flesh either, but to judge what God judges, first of all judging ourselves:"Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." /Mat.7:5/

Noticed Merrell's post here had a funny reply from the 'experts'

I'll rip it from the other thread, as he had the same line there..

An Introduction to the Names Yehoshua/Joshua, Yeshua, Jesus and Yeshu
by Kai Kjær-Hansen
http://www.jewsforjesus.org/answers/jesus/names

goes thru well known different pronounciations and ends with a concluding with a story of a woman
most happy to hear of "Yeshua Hamashiach (the Hebrew translation) "
but the one witnessing never used the name "Jesus Christ",...
"She even stood up in the meeting and told how much she loved Yeshua.
Then one day she found out that Yeshua meant Jesus, and she never came back! "

"! Now, I am not against using the name Yeshua as a missionary technique, but the Jewish person must understand that we are talking about Jesus!

Exactly! In Jewish evangelism we are talking about Jesus of Nazareth—the friend and Saviour of sinners. That is what his name—Yeshua—means, and that meaning can become clear even if you use JESUS in a diaspora language. Anyway, this is what Matthew believed. "

Also good on this subject:

HIS NAME IS YESHUA, and IESOUS is the Greek form for the Hebrew YESHUA or YOSHIA, from where we get 'JOSHUA.'

Thus Joshua could say...'A prophet like unto me will God raise up to him shall ye hearken'..this was a prophecy concerning the Messiah who had a name like unto 'Yoshua'

The Hebrew word for "he will save" is "yoshia," which has the same Hebrew root (yud-shin-'ayin) as the name Yeshua (yud-shin-vav-'ayin). Thus the messiah's name is explained on the basis of what he will do.

Etymologically the name Ye-shu-a - is a contraction of the Hebrew name "Y'hoshua" (Joshua).........In the Tanakh nine persons and a city have the name Yeshua. In the Septuagint and the New Testament the name was brought over into Greek as Iesous..........It means "Y-H-V-H saves" (Matthew 1:21) and is also the masculine form of yeshu'ah ("salvation"). In modern Hebrew Yeshua's name is pronounced and written "Yeshu," which may have been the ancient pronunciation in the Galil.
Thus the Saviour has a name and title and NOT a first and second name....HE is YESHUA 'the' MESSIAH, in English Jesus 'the' Christ.

Richard Merrill -- You are way past judging. You are into hatred and wrath.

Without a cause.

That is a sin bad enough to send you to Hell.

Hell isn't worth it.

Go read Dan Corner's website. It will help.

Also, Yeshua is not the name of Jesus. The Bible was written in Greek, not Hebrew. I'm speaking of the New Testament. His name is Jesus, not Yeshua.

Something is wrong if you don't like the Bible and you don't like the name of Jesus.

The Bible teaches that we a 'ARE TO JUDGE'

Many Christinas seem to know only one verse..'judge not that ye be not judged'...they think these words are the 'BE ALL AND END ALL'...but they are wrong. For they do not take note of the situation or reason that the Messiah said that.

In another place the Messiah said...'When you judge, judge with righteous judgement'

THE CHURCH is to judge WITHIN, the church must judge, for as Paul asked...'do you not know that we shall judge angels?' These may be the angels God cast down to tartarus, who are bound.

Righteous judgement is what we are to do...here are an example

'I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.' 1 Corinthians 5:9 - 13

Adam was capable of obedience. He chose not to obey. That's more than poor judgement. One can make poor judgement based on incomplete information. Adam's "information" "thou shalt not eat of it" was complete.

God planted the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden. Gen 2.17.
Who was it's "fruit" created for.?

Assuming Adam was capable of judgement, prior to eating the said fruit, his sin then was bad judgement.? (Which resulted in disobedience.)
