Jeremiah 6:16- Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
Sound familiar??!
Thanks Discerned Believer. I do believe this should be our goal. Proverbs were written to give us divine wisdom in many areas of our lives.
The only liberty you have in Christ is to love the Lord with all your heart, soul and mind. You don't have liberty to live in sin.
Prov. 23:31 tells us to "Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright."
It doesn't mention drunkeness in the admonition, it tells you not to even look at it.
You do not have liberty to change God's word, only to obey it.
It sounds like you have an attitude problem.
There you have it folks. The difference between a "reformed" Christian and a re-born Christian. A reborn Christian is given a new life and a spiritual rebirth with a desire for holiness that will please the Lord, mind, body and soul.
Don't worry, I don't plan to bind your conscience with the word of God, the liquor has already done it.
By your hostile attitude, Satan has already put his foot in the door of your life and testimony.
Does that justify you walking close to sin, just because gluttons choose to do the same? Does that make it right.
They too will answer for their transgressions.
Many of drunks started out just like yourselves, just one little sip. No matter how strong you think the flesh is, it is still corrupt and Satan is still in the ballgame, regardless of what you preterist think.
Satan is like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Be watchful "reformed" drinkers, he may be looking for you.
I have the strange suspicion that even under your criteria, you have fallen into sin more often than not.
But if you want the liberty to drink, smoke, dope up, or whatever you like to do. I am sure you will find a valid excuse somewhere.
If those who don't want to drink or have problems with it, don't drink. But don't interfere with the liberty of others who are able by God's grace to enjoy strong drink without the sin of drunkenness. We don't judge you, so don't judge us.
He ignores the pertinent objections and chokes over the insignificant.
One would discern his honesty, if only he would not ignore everything else. An maybe one would take his concerns like the one below more seriously.
I have learned otherwise.
Galatians 4:16- Am I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?
