Well Im glad to hear of another Baptist who covers her head. Personally I wear one all the time. I work at a Christian bookstore and contantly pray and prophecy, plus when you just want to talk to the Lord your walking down the street, its like a hassle you have to get a covering. So I wear one all the time, cept for sleeping. Many Baptists dont, if not 99.9%, I find this disturbing, because they say its the hair but 70 % of the women in the congregation have boys haircuts. So much for being Bible Believing Fundamental Independent Baptist who only follows the word of God not man...

I liked your comment precious sister. Somehow I don't believe God wants women to be either doormats nor wicked and men too for that matter.

Hope you have a blessed Easter where you can be accepted as a beloved and welcome child of God.

Leigh - great example! My wife always wears one to church meetings (of any type) and frequently is the only lady there with a covering. She also wears it when we pray & give thanks at home.

Re the kippa/yameluke, see www.jewfaq.org/signs.htm . At least they admit it's a custom.

And a good deduction, DB. Notice that 2 Sam. 15:30 mentions David & other men *covering* their heads while in mourning, which is not an act of worship as such.

Does anybody know where the tradition of Jewish males wearing a yamulka came from? It would appear that if it is proper for women to have her head covered in worship, then it would be improper for Jewish men to have a yamulka on their heads since they are to have their heads uncovered.

Leigh,

If you peruse 1 Cor. 11, Paul qualifies his arguments (for both sexes) with "when praying or prophesying." Thus I take that to mean covering the head in the context of corporate or family worship, or even private devotions.

I'm of Ref. Baptist persuasion too. But many are not sold on headcoverings.

Women should wear bags over their heads and bags over their bodies so no one will know who they are; and lest they entice any man............of course I say that all facetiously.

After moving, we just started attending a Reformed Baptist church and I am the only one who wears a headcovering. In our last church, all the women did. My question is, should I wear one just for church, or also for Bible studies, prayer meeting on Wednesday, etc.?

LadyinChrist,
What a fine example. Thanks!

Why wear the covering? "'cause the Bible tells me so."

Recently I have started wearing a headcovering full time. I work in a Christian bookstore and am constantly praying and prophecying to people. I dont mind the fact people support this idea with the greek, but I do not believe it because of what the greek says, I believe it because it is what the Bible says. There are many references in the Bible to a woman or man covering their head with a veil. I am a fundamental Baptist so not many people cover their heads in this denomination and they say that they believe it is the hair but 60-70 % of the women have short hair. It seems irrelevant a piece of cloth or long hair, but there is soooo much more to it, spiritual signifigance that people dont even look at...

Even the Apostles say in Acts "It is better to obey God than man." I even saw a Roman Catholic quote that verse to warn against bad popes. And since JY is still RCC(sort of) he should take heed.

JY Quote:"And that minister is Born Again as is my brother and everybody else at that Non Denominational Church."

How can you categorically say that? You don't know. Can you see into hearts to tell? Are you Christ? You say this against me and many others when errors or pointed out. Now you are categorically stating who's saved. How do you know?

John Yurich,

Nobody cares what the pastor at your brother's nodenominational church says, thinks or does. It does not matter.

The question is: What does God say in His Word? It matters what God says. God says women should cover their heads. Should we listen to the pastor at your brother's nondenominational church or to God?

John,
And? What's the point you're trying to make in the post below? Why are you combining dress codes with regeneration? I stated this covering is not for salvation. People should do it because it says so.

Faithful Remnant and Kenny,

The minister at the Non Denominational Church that my brother belongs to does not require the women to wear headcoverings to the worship services. And that minister is Born Again as is my brother and everybody else at that Non Denominational Church.

John Yurich,
Why? Because the Apostles said so. Not for salvation, but because it's the order and way to do worship.

Kenny is right. Those women need to obey their Lord. How can you be saved if you only believe Jesus is savior? My Bible says you must beieve him as Lord and then saved(Acts 16:31). And the Lord ordered worship through the Apostles and they say the women are to cover themselves.

John Yurich,

It does not matter one iota what any woman thinks at your brother's nondenominational church. What matters is what God says. If a woman there is saved, she should cover her head.

Does the Bible indicate that women who follow Christ are to cover their heads? Choose an answer: YES or NO.

If it does (and it does), what would be the reason for women to not cover their heads?

Answer: REBELLION.

If you were a woman (and I am assuming you are not), would you want to live your life on this earth in rebellion against God? I would hope the answer is no.

Sadly, many women (and men) do choose to live their lives in rebellion against God to one degree or another. That is why most churches, homes, families, and individuals are in the mess they are in.

God did not give us that great, big Book for nothing. He went to great lengths to make sure we have it in order to know how to live our lives in a manner that pleases Him. There is a reason why He wants women to cover their heads and He explains it clearly in His Word. God has an order for things.

We are not on this earth for our fun and happiness, John. We are here to glorify Him. We do that when we do what He says.

Kenny,

But the wearing of headcoverings is not required for gaining entrance into Heaven. Nowhere in the Bible does it state that one of the requirements for gaining entrance into Heaven is that headcoverings be worn. The only requirement for gaining entrance into Heaven is to receive Christ as ones Savior. My brother's wife and no other woman at that Non Denominational Church wear hats or veils to the worship services and yet my brother's wife and every other woman at that Non Denominational Church is saved because of having received Christ as their Savior and they will gain entrance into Heaven eventhough they do not wear hats or veils to the worship services.

John Yurich,

Because the God who sent His only begotten Son to be beaten and die on a cross for the penalty of your sins requires it in His Word. That's why.

Again, faith that saves is faith that obeys.

Yes of course headcoverings are scriptural because they are mentioned in the Bible but it is not requred for gaining entrance into Heaven that headcoverings be worn because nowhere in the Bible does it equate the wearing of headcoverings with gaining entrance into Heaven. If it is not required for gaining entrance into Heaven that headcoverings be worn then why wear headcoverings?
