It's not because I have anything personally against homosexuals. To the contrary. As a pastor, I long for their physical and spiritual well-being.
And I know that their chosen lifestyle is destructive.
The very champions of their political cause have said so.
In 2012, the Obama administration issued a report titled "Top Health Issues for LGBT Populations" from the "Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration" under the auspices of the Department of Health and Human Services.
It contains many damning statistics. Damning in this way--if the so-called "gay rights advocates" actually cared about the people they supposedly serve, they would publicize this data far and wide to warn people about the dangers to their well-being.
It's a well-established fact that depression, substance abuse, and attempted suicide among people in the "LGBT community" are much higher than the rest of the population
Do you wonder why they are depressed and suicidal?
Many would blame it on Christian morals that impose "false guilt" on them. If only we Christians would shut up and affirm them, life would be well.
You're familiar with that narrative, right?
Try this instead. In the report I mentioned above, the Obama administration--the Obama administration, mind you--reported this statistic (among many others):
Over 56% of lesbian or gay adults report experiencing intimate partner violence, compared with 17.5% of straight adults.
What is that saying?
Their own LGBT lovers beat them up more than half the time.
Can you imagine the hurt, shame, and anger that must build into their hearts over time?
Can you imagine how that violence must breed and feed itself?
The prevalent threat against LGBT people is from within--the frequently anonymous people who want to hook up and use them for their own gratification.
Friends, the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ--that God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16)--is not a threat to those who are being abused by their sexual partners.
It is a promise of forgiveness and liberation.
It's the bondage of the promoted lifestyle that is the threat.
If this post somehow reaches a depressed homosexual or lesbian, let me assure you that Jesus Christ is your one true friend if you will come to him in repentant faith.
To my Christian audience: don't be intimidated by the prevailing narrative.
Jesus Christ is not the problem.
He is the solution.
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).
