Calvary Chapel is a non-denominational church movement focused on the inerrancy of the Bible and the expository teaching from Genesis to Revelation. Prior to 1993, a few couples in Silver City, New Mexico were praying for a Calvary Chapel to be started here in Silver City. They were familiar with the style of Calvary Chapel Albuquerque.
In February 1993, 5 or 6 people began meeting on Thursday evenings in the home of Chris & Marsha Christensen where Joseph Gros led a Bible Study. In September of that year, they began holding Sunday meetings in the Agape School and continued the Thursday evening Bible Study. They continued to meet there for 4 years.
In January 1998, the church began meeting at the Word of Life building off highway 180 east of town. Land was purchased and activities started toward building a facility for the church. The actual project started in 2000 when a metal building was purchased and now the church of some 300 people is meeting south of town off highway 90.
Today, our church has numerous ministries, studies, activities, our own school and a radio station.
We exist to bring glory to God through worship and daily experience, to share the life-changing of Jesus Christ, and to equip believers in a knowledge of scripture to help them grow in their spiritual walk and be able to defend the truth of the Word of God.
