"The Name Anointed" I John2:15ff and LD12 We are continuing our exposition regarding the Son of God and the names that are God given. We looked at the name Jesus and now look at the name Messiah or Christ. This name is NOT the essence of God but rather is His office! We also have the unction of the Holy One and are partakers in Christ of His three fold office and they reflect in our lives daily. We live what we have been made.
Messiah in the old testament literally means "the Anointed One." What He is He now does and exercises Himself in His office. Anointing means two things: An appointment where God puts a finger on a certain person and appoints them and also they were appointed/consecrated with oil which meant that God qualified them to function in their office. These things also apply to us as partakers of His anointing. Christ's office has a three fold affect. Note that no man held all three offices in the old testament...that was Christ. The Lord was all three!
1. God spoke through the seer....the prophets. They contained the Word of God to speak it to the people.
2. The priest rendered the sacrifice to God on behalf of the people.
3. The king ruled His people in Canaan the picture of Heaven itself. He essentially ruled His people from the tabernacle. He conquered the people and He ruled His people in peace within that kingdom.
The very Word of God dwelt among us in Christ! He was the savior between God and man and was THE Prophet of God...laid down His life as the Priest, and His is the King of His Kingdom of which we are citizens! He spoke of these things and He lived it! That Kingdom stands forever and He will rein forever.
What does that mean for us though? We are we called Christians? How does our anointing show itself in our lives? We are partakers of Christ's anointing with the Holy Spirit! The anointing we see in Christ works itself our in our lives:
Prophet: It shows in the church offices but we are also prophets and have the knowledge of God. We know, confess, and LIVE the TRUTH! We know and gain that knowledge in scripture as God gives it to us and we grow in that knowledge in our lives. That knowledge also transfers INTO our lives!
Priest: We serve God as a continuing sacrifice as we live UNTO the Lord as a LIVING sacrifice!
King: We rein with Christ as we struggle with the powers of darkness and we live Godly lives with Him!
Now that you are a partakers and qualified of God how do we live our lives? We profess Him and people see in our lives that we are Christians. That is how we rule over our lives. Let us also understand and SHOW why we are Christians!
