This follows the question of Lord's Day 2. Can we keep the law of God perfectly? How can we keep the law of God perfectly? We have a deprived nature and we cannot keep it. Now the question is why can we not keep the law of God? It is not God's fault but our own being created in God's image but we fell at the instigation of the devil. We can also see God's will that it was God in His sovereign counsel to save a people through Christ! Regeneration whereby we know God, love Him, and will be glorified in and through Him!
Through sin: Why the fall? Why cannot continual fellowship with God be the end? It was not the purpose of God! We were created in His image and we are His image bearers. We were made knowledgeable, holy, and righteous before Him....and we gave this image content as we were created. Supralapsarianism - The history of this world unfolds as it makes sense to God from the viewpoint of it serving His good pleasure to accomplish His end. History does not fall on man. God did NOT react to man, but from all eternity He choose to Himself a church in and through Christ! The creation was made subjective to vanity as was the will of God!
By grace: It was the very purpose of God to lift His creation into glorious liberty through sin and grace! He could not fellowship with Adam forever from paradise APART from Christ! Many today do not want to believe or even think that sin was in God's plan, but the scripture is the gospel! Redemption in Christ after the fall. It comes about through the gospel of grace! Read Ephesians 1! It is FROM God, BY God, and ALWAYS unto God!!! All things are according to the pleasure of His good will!! What God wills He ALWAYS accomplishes and that is why He desires a church and there is redemption! The devil appears as God's purpose that we would fall and ALL of history is REDEMPTIVE history to His glory in the final end! How could we have the cross of Christ if we did not fall? We cannot and should not wish for not having the fall in history. God preaches that Gospel and that gospel is affected by God as well as we are born again and regenerated in Christ! We were created as image bearers and God made man in His image and likeness as we had a reflection of God in us...and regeneration restores that image of God in us! And I submit to you that this was God's very purpose from all eternity! His glory! Perfectly into eternity!
Unto Glory: It ALL serves that purpose! So why the fall? Why sin, hell, the depravity, and sin and death? God's glory! The pleasure of God and His good purpose is to adopt a people for the pleasure of His good will. God wanted a hell? Yes! It is ALL God's good pleasure whereby He accomplishes all things for the purpose of His good pleasure and His glory into all of eternity!
We do not curiously investigate God's will, but are very thankful for it are we not?!
"A Reliable Saying" I Timothy 1:5 Most commentators believe this was a common saying in the church world in the Old Testament church. That Christ came into this world to save sinners of which I am chief. Paul recalls his rather "shady" background...[ abbreviated | read entire ]
