"BUT AS MANY AS RECEIVED HIM" (Jews, Gentile, rich, poor, bond or free) "TO THEM GAVE HE POWER TO BECOME THE SONS OF GOD." If you are an unbeliever, then "as many as received him" includes you, for it includes everyone and excludes no one. The Light came that ALL men, every man might see the light; and to those who receive the Light "HE GIVES THE POWER to become the SONS OF GOD.” Notice that HE GIVES the POWER. Man cannot produce the POWER to become a child of God. It cannot be worked up, prayed down, bought, or lived. HE BESTOWS the POWER that transforms us from dead sinners into living sons of GOD.

"EVEN TO THEM THAT BELIEVE ON HIS NAME." "ON" signifies committal. Just as we drive our automobile onto a ferry boat or a bridge, just as we get on an airplane, we believe ON Jesus for salvation. When we believe on Him a BIRTH takes place-- but man does not "Born" HIMSELF. The new birth does not come through the will of the flesh nor the will of man: it is the direct result of the divine power of Almighty God. NO MAN- not even Adam with all that he possessed in the Garden of Eden-- has ever been willing to let GOD tell him what to do and what not to do until that man has had a miracle performed in his heart and spirit. Therefore, God GIVES power to those who will receive Jesus--power to become sons of God, born into the family of heaven. God does the "BORNING", Man's part is simply to receive the Lord Jesus Christ and believe on His name.

ACTS 4:12 "NEITHER IS THERE SALVATION IN ANY OTHER: FOR THERE IS NONE OTHER NAME UNDER HEAVEN GIVEN AMONG MEN, WHEREBY WE MUST BE SAVED."

MATTHEW 1:21 The angel of the Lord instructed Joseph that when Mary brought forth a son (that which was conceived in her of the Holy Ghost) they should call His name JESUS, "FOR HE SHALL SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS."
JESUS means SAVIOUR, and He saves us when we believe on His name and receive Him by faith. God through the power of the Gospel (the incorruptible Word) " borns" us into the family of heaven. (Romans 1:16,17;10:17;1Peter 1:23; Ephesians 2:8-10).
John clearly points out and stresses the fact that human generation has nothing to do with divine and spiritual generation. Notice: "WHICH WERE BORN" (or begotten) "NOT OF BLOOD" (the element of physical life--Leviticus 17:11), "NOR OF THE WILL OF THE FLESH" (from the natural or human impulse or design), "NOR OF THE WILL OF MAN" (the Greek word used here for MAN signifies the male, suggesting human determination) "BUT OF GOD!" Human generation has nothing to do with regeneration. "SALVATION IS OF THE LORD" (JONAH 2:9).

REVELATION 3:20 "BEHOLD, I STAND AT THE DOOR, AND KNOCK: IF ANY MAN HEAR MY VOICE, AND OPEN THE DOOR, I WILL COME IN TO HIM, AND WILL SUP WITH HIM, AND HE WITH ME."
