In September 1957, God led a young missionary by the name of Rev. Richard Schott, to start a work in the promising city of Davao. He, together with his wife and daughter conducted services in a rented one door room in Bolton Street. Regular services were held there during the course of six months. Sunday Mornings, Sunday Nights and Wednesday Nights. Besides that, some Special Sundays, street meetings, Bible studies and door to door visitation. All of this was done to fulfill the main purpose of its existence - winning the lost at any cost with the gospel of Christ.
In March 2, 1958, the Bible Baptist Mission was finally organized into a Church with 16 charter members. The Future was looking bright for this young congregation. After 2 years at Bolton St., the building could no longer contain the growing assembly, this prompted our missionary to move the church to an upstairs building in Anda St. Due to God's blessing and their fervent zeal to win the lost and share God's Word, the building in Anda could no longer hold this fast growing congregation. Again, a larger space was needed. God led them to another upstairs building in San Pedro corner Legaspi Street. There the church held meetings until 1963.
In 1963, God provided the church with a lot that they could finally call their own, this lot on Ma. Guerrero St. From that point onwards, this is where the church conducts its services. God's blessings have been evident in the lives of our Missionaries and those of whom they have touched and influence. In the year 2000, the church called on a new pastor. Rev. Anselmo Ingay from Mati became the pastor of this growing, thriving and influential church. He is a product of the Bible Baptist Institute started by our missionary. A young & dynamic preacher filled with zeal, commitment and vision for the work of the Lord.
From 16 charter members to an average of 700 in the morning service and from renting 3 store house buildings to a newly dedicated 3 storey edifice, God's Provision, Presence, Promises and Power are obviously Proven by this strong, High-impact Baptist Church. It is evident that God's hand is all over this ministry. From its humble beginnings to its rise to great spiritual influence, only one thing can be said of this great spiritual work "This is the LORD's doing; it is marvellous in our eyes." (Ps. 118:23) 61 years have come and gone, but the Methods and THE Message of the Bible Baptist Church, 35. L.M. Guerrero St. has NOT changed and may it NEVER change Sharing God's simple plan of salvation through preaching the Word of God and personal Soulwinning. It's just the same "old" work-just more of it! Winning the lost by the gospel of Jesus Christ.
