During our 9/11 crises I received emails of condolence and prayer from all over the world. Again during Hurricane Ike this happened. Now it is our turn to pray for our brothers and sisters in Japan . In lieu of my regular prayer dispatch I am going to instead present you with a call to pray for the nation of Japan in general and your Christian brothers and sisters in particular. Now these dear saints again are in need of your earnest intercessions. I know they can count on you:
Please pray for the Kanekos, pastor Goro and the members of the Utsunomiya Bible Church. To send an email of encouragment to the Kenji and Masako Kaneko - kanekoma@ucatv.ne.jp. Kenji and Masako Kaneko have been friends for over 25 years. Please pray for the Kanekos. They are strong Christians with a strong witness for Christ. They live in Utsunomiya, a suburb of hard hit Tokyo . We have not heard anything from them as yet but will keep trying.
Shinichi and Satoko Iimura have been friends for over 30 years. We have ministered with them in their church and home. Satoko is the pianist at the Utsunomiya Baptist Church . Ask God to bless and keep the Iimuras and their church. To send an email of encouragment to Shinichi and Satoko Iimua - iimura@koyonet.com. While in Japan we gave the FDS and Marriage Covenant Seminars to a conference of missionaries. Life up these faithful saints that God will keep them safe and give them many opportunities to share their faith.
We will never be able to repay Brian and Margery Van Zante for the ministry they had in the lives our children Sam and Lizzy. They have a vibrant and effective evangelistic and discipleship ministry in their coastal city, the University and their church. Please pray for their safety. I just got off the phone with Margery and they were spared damage from earthquake and Tsunami. To send an email of encouragment to Biran and Margery Van Zante - mbvanzante@yahoo.com
One of the blessings Eleanor and I get to experience on the mission field is to visit sites of historical or cultural interest. I know that when Paul first traveled to Greece and Rome he found a culture filled with pagan temples. Because of the active ministry of the Christians and their witness these now are nothing more than historical relics, the church having taken their place. When I tour these pagan sites I pray that in Japan the day will speedily come when a great revival sweeps away these temples as it did in Europe. Pray for a great awakening in Japan.
I close this dispatch as always with a deep and abiding thankfulness for your sacrificial and effectual prayers which empower and drive this ministry ever forward in the cause of Christ.
