III John 1:4 "I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth."

1. Love and honor father and mother
2. Love and support one another – that they would be best friends with spouses and with each others spouses
3. Would not cause us grief due to sin
4. Close friends with parents
5. Friends who are spiritually and emotionally healthy
6. Impart to them value of walk with God and ministry above social standing and wealth.
7. Always be secure in my love and pride of them.
8. They nor the relationship be damaged by my overpowering character
9. They would develop their own convictions, their own walk with God and their own gifts and callings – would think through and make good decisions.
10. Live independent lives, both fruitful and fulfilled in their relationship with God and man.
Dear Prayer Warriors,
One of the most frequent emails I get is regarding updates on our children. Many of you have prayed for them for years, some since their births and I appreciate so much the interest that is always shown now that they are adults. I thought I would use this dispatch for a quick update...
Aaron & Becca Welch
Becca and Aaron are active in their church as are their children. I could not be more proud of the godly leadership which Aaron exerts in the spiritual care and protection of his family. Daniel is enjoying his first year of school. I just called today and Aaron proudly reported that Daniel regularly gets to take items out of the “Treasure Chest” for good behavior and that his teacher reported to him that not only is Daniel one of the best behaved children in his class but also one of the most intelligent. Nathan and Jacob are at home with Becca where she runs her own pre-school for them. One of the highlights of my week are the regular calls I get during the day from Nathan and Jacob. Both are as sharp as tacks and we just about burst with pride when we consider the wonderful job of parenting which Becca has done and continues to do with her three boys. Aaron continues to advance in his career at Weyerhaeuser and Becca continues to grow and mature as a godly wife and stay at home mom. They have their trials as do all families but they always face them with courage and faith.
Sam & Anne Mahon
Sam and Anne also are active in their church and John is the favorite in the nursery. Sam and Anne have me teaching our Marriage Covenant Seminar at their church and I began the seminar by assuring all that, “You don’t have to agree with what is taught in this seminar to go to heaven or to be Sam’s friend”. Sam and I have lunch on Wednesdays and I pick him up at the office of National Oil / Varco where he continues to advance in his career. Sam and I will be driving up to Wichita Falls next month where I will be giving a workshop at a men’s conference on missions while Sam will be a small group leader. It will be a fun time together. Besides getting to see our grandson John on Sunday, John also comes for a visit every other Friday and we spend the afternoon together while Anne gets a little free time to herself. Anne is expecting number two and this will be quite an event as we will then have more grandchildren than children.
Megan Mahon
Megan continues her career as a teacher, is active in her church and blessing to her mom, dad, brother, sister-in-law and nephews. We compete with her for baby sitting and she seems to be getting the upper hand as her little nephew just loves her to death. I often have lunch with Megan or just drop by for coffee and she will have me be a guest reader to her students. They obviously love her and whenever I meet school officials or parents they sing her praises. Megan continues to be burdened with missions and personal evangelism and is a real light for Christ at work and at church. As a single career woman she is highly mobile and makes regular trips to see Becca’s family and Joe and Lizzy. It is such a joy to have such a godly and sensitive daughter and she is truly a blessing to all who come in contact with her. One of the things Megan has encouraged us to do is get out and enjoy our year here in the states. She is a real stimulus to us to stay flexible and just have fun. Megan regularly drops by the house for visits and she and El invariably end up shopping together. They are best friends and just love spending time together.
Joe and Lizzy Izaguirre
We just got back from visiting Joe and Lizzy and had a ball. Joe has been serving as Student Minister at Scofield Memorial Bible Church in Dallas, Texas while he attends Dallas Theological Seminary where he is pursuing his Masters of Theology. If I can brag a little he is acing both Greek and Hebrew which is no small accomplishment. I sat in on his Bible study Sunday morning and took copious notes as well as asking him for his notes. He really has a mind for Scriptures. Lizzy has finished up her Masters in Public Health. If the post-tribulation rapture crowd is right it will be nice to have Lizzy around to let us know about all the plagues we will be experiencing. She is already published and if you would like to see some of her work you can follow these links: http://www.tarrantcounty.com/ehealth/lib/ehealth/2005_TC_Leading_Causes_of_Death_Report_Final.pdf
One of the highlights of the weekend for El was to get to sit in on Lizzy’s Saturday morning Bible study which she leads for college girls at the local Starbucks. We had a wonderful weekend with Joe and Lizzy and it is a joy to see them finding their way in life, marriage and ministry in such a godly way.
We are so thankful to have such loving, considerate and godly children. The separation of the miles and time that comes with mission work is always hard on parents of adult children but when their children lead such Christ honoring lives it makes it so much easier. We realize that in addition to the hard work we put into raising our children that you also have faithfully prayed for our marriage, our family and our children. We praise God for your faithful and earnest intercessions and wanted to give you this short report of the fruit of your faith.
By His mercy,
John and Eleanor Mahon – living in the greatest joy of all, that our children walk in the love and faith of the risen Savior.
I close this dispatch with two hymns from my prayer notebook that were especially meaningful to me this morning...
Alleluia! sing to Jesus!
Alleluia! sing to Jesus! His the scepter, His the throne. Alleluia! His the triumph, His the victory alone. Hark! the songs of peaceful Zion thunder like a mighty flood. Jesus out of every nation has redeemed us by His blood.
Alleluia! not as orphans are we left in sorrow now; Alleluia! He is near us, faith believes, nor questions how; Though the cloud from sight received Him when the forty days were o’er Shall our hearts forget His promise, “I am with you evermore”?
Alleluia! bread of angels, Thou on earth our food, our stay; Alleluia! here the sinful flee to Thee from day to day: Intercessor, Friend of sinners, Earth’s Redeemer, plead for me, Where the songs of all the sinless sweep across the crystal sea.
O Sacred Head, Now Wounded
O sacred Head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down, Now scornfully surrounded with thorns, Thy only crown, How pale Thou art with anguish, with sore abuse and scorn.. How does that visage languish which once was bright as morn.
Thy Passion, Lord, Thou hast borne for me, For it was my transgression which brought this woe on Thee. I cast me down before Thee, wrath were my rightful lot; Have mercy, I implore Thee; Redeemer, spurn me not!
What Thou, my Lord, has suffered was all for sinners gain; Mine, mine was the transgression, but Thine the deadly pain. Lo here I fall, my Savior. Tis I deserve Thy place; Look on me with Thy favor, Vouch-safe me to Thy grace.
What language shall I borrow to thank Thee, dearest friend, For this Thy dying sorrow, Thy pity without end? O make me Thine forever; and, should I fainting be, Lord, let me never, never outlive my love for Thee.
Be Thou my consolation, my shield when I must die; Remind me of Thy passion when my last hour draws nigh. Mine eyes shall then behold Thee, upon Thy cross shall dwell, My heart by faith enfolds Thee. Who dieth thus dies well.
