Great Sermon! My previous comment was not inferring that Michael Barrett was stereotyping ethnic Jews, but Asher Norman, the author in discussion.
Asher is stereotyping.
I gets worse with cogs in my declining cognition.
Great Sermon! This is stereotyping to say that "Jews don't believe in Jesus." He cannot do this for the ethnic, natural, Jew nor the spiritual Jew.
He could just as easily say, '... Italians don't believe in Jesus."
God has circumcised the hearts of people of every ethnicity. He has made one new man of every people and of every kindred and tongue.
His assumption is based on total ignorance.
Great Sermon! I really enjoy your teachings. I miss your fellowship and hands on sharing of learning from the AV. I pray that the Lord continues to prosper you in all that you do. Your Biblical Hermeneutics is spot on and is a blessing to God's people. I am enjoying the Reformation Heritage Study Bible and will give a proper review shortly.
Faith in the Son required to please God How can they say a righteous, perfect God can be approached based on a sinning, imperfect man doing his best to obey the law? Their god is weak and pacified easily!
Jesus Christ the lens of all Scripture Unbelief a matter of the heart- thank you Dr Barret for emphasizing that again. Faith has to be a part in understanding Old Testament, because all of OT points to Christ's coming in the fullness of time.
Judaism man-made People quickly connect Judaism with Old Testament which is wrong. When you think of it as oral tradition written down after the Scriptures then it becomes man's religion made up by rabbis-who refute Jesus like Jews in Jesus' time did-thinking they know truth better than inspired Scriptures teach and Jesus taught.
Great Sermon! Am thankful Dr Barrett hit the "heart of the matter" first off in the series- (hearts that are stone and eyes that are blind) as I seek to understand why loved ones turned away from the living Christ to this religion of tradition and works.
Excellent! What a foolishness, to compare the Incarnation with the semi-gods of paganism! Those were invented by men, but people couldn't invent a notion of God-man as revealed by the NT! People couldn't understand that notion. How can we say he invented it? Very good the OT argumentation of more than one Person in the Godhead!
Excellent! It is true that Jesus did not fulfil the Messianic criteria of a Judaism developed along anto-Christian lines, but He fulfilled the OT Messianic criteria.
A difficult verse. It is interesting that from the all Bible commentaries I have in my home no one discusses with seriousness (some do not mention the problem) the problem of this verse - Matthew 12:40.
Great difference. Yes, Jesus kept the Law of God, but not the rabbinic traditiond, the rabbinic additions to the Law of God. He fulfilled God's will, not the religious expectations of men!
Great lesson. It is interesting that the Jews do not accept the progressive revelation of God in the NT, but accept the progressive "revelation" in the Talmud and the Mishna, by which they interpret the OT - so they add to the OT. At the same time, how can they say that they believe that the Law is eternal, and still do not continue with the Temple and the sacrifices?
Great arguments. Biblical argumentation. Fallen man cannot obey perfectly the Law of God. The comment by James Wood is no response: he didn't say on what basis can God forgive sins. JW's view of sin and God's holiness is wrong.
Great insight. I see a similar problem in the New Perspective in Paul. They start not from the OT, but from the intertestamental rabbinic Judaism and want to argue that Jesus came to fulfill the expectations of the Jews, expectations based not on the OT, but on the intertestamental writings, which departed from the OT.
