“ Great Sermon! ”
One week ago{I trust it is o.k. to share this comment}I was sitting down with Albert Martin in his study and we were reflecting on the indefatigable labors of Pastor Bala in India. He told me that he believes that Bala's ministry, church building, shepherding, translating, and overseeing,-in Sri Lanka and elsewhere, is the closest thing he knows in this day to what would illustrate a modern apostolic ministry. In our own church when we read his ministry updates, we continually marvel how he can do so much. But Paul reminds us it is the strength of Christ that enables us to do the Lord's work and we pray that God would continue to be with this dear brother for years to come.Great to see him again two weeks ago here in Grand Rapids as well.

“ Good overview, but... ”
The overview of the previous 12 messages was good (except no reference to Origen), but the handling of the objections left a little more to be desired. Tertuallian's language was definitely that of preference. Whether it was urgent or theological or specific, it was still that of preference. As a result of his language, much of the visible church then practised varying sorts of "delayed baptisms." No where does Tertullian explicitly condemn infant baptism either. If history does not establish paedobaptism, it does not appear ro establish credobaptism either.

“ Great Sermon! ”
Mr. Sulman, I really appreciate your time and investigation into this topic. I grew up in the Christian Reformed Church, and my parents practiced the Presumption Regeneration infant baptism. It was assumed I was a Christian by all in the church and my family. I was born-again when I was in my last year in college by the grace of God! I was re-baptized later when I learned of the error of infant baptism. The error of this teaching cannot be overstated! It has brought much confusion into my life because according to my family I have always been saved, but according to the Spirit of God and scripture I was saved later in life. Now I am compelled by the love of Christ to challenge my parents to test themselves to see if they are in the faith as Paul instructed the Corinthians. Would the Apostle Paul have a different response to the Paedobaptist than he did to the false teachers preaching circumcision in Galations 1? A gospel that includes baptismal regeneration is not the true gospel, even if it is preached by an angel from heaven or Paul himself(Gal.1:8) What is the difference between believing in baptismal regeneration or presumptive regeneration? To the family it means the same and you get the same result. Shouldn't paedobaptists who believe this repent from a false Gospel?

Sermon:
Mortification of Sin part 9
Les Walthers

“ Excellent: Very Humbling ”
After three days I have just finished the 9th sermon. I listened to 5 of them yesterday alone. With many sermons here we cry AMEN! Which too often means, "Way to preach to others, I am o.k." When John Owen preaches to me I cry OH ME! There is an online discussion going on about this book http://www.challies.com/ and I just joined it and pointed them to this series of lectures. I don't remember a series of sermons so cutting me to the heart like this exposition of Owen's book. And I hear three or four sermons a day. The discussion of the term, "Inveterateness" alone is searching to the core. I recommend getting all of Owen's works if even if on CD. I found it here for just 11.00 http://www.discountbible.com under the column for AGES CDs. Thank you Pastor Walthers for expounding Owen so well. I don't envy the pastoral counseling you will have to do after a series like this. I told my friend yesterday that if I lived in Dallas, I know which church I would attend! Thanks and may God continue to strenghthen you, you can't retire just yet!

Mortification of Sin part 3

“ So glad to find these lectures! ”
I did not discover this series until today and I started with this lecture. I am very satisfied with what I have heard. John Owen's works volume 6 are so prized by me. I have two different narrations of The Mortification of Sin on Sermon Audio.SID=62906111628 and SID=61404213748. But more importantly I believe this subject is important for many reasons. (1)The only other teaching of this book by a Reformed Baptist pastor that I know of was in the early 70's and that pastor has shipwrecked and disqualified himself from the ministry and (2)my own brother - known to the church there in Dallas, has also defected. No warnings then can be too strong and Pastor Walthers is doing a great service here. I will let my friends know about the sermons and download all of them. Thank you so much!!
