“ Snakes ” Dear Brothers and Sisters and Dr Phillips. In answer to your question about nearly having been snake bitten. I have on at least three occasions nearly been bitten by snakes. At the age of 6 I was collecting the eggs from our chickens out in the foul run on our small 10 acre farm in Northern Rhodesia. I was reaching into the individual nests gathering the chicken eggs when a 5ft 11inch long Cape Cobra spat it's venom into my eyes which blinded me for a few days. It could quite easily have bitten me as I reached for the eggs. My Dad found the snake and blew it's head off with his shotgun.Onother time I had dug up an old African earthenware bowl alongside a primitive copper furnace in bush around Phalaborwa South Africa and when I returned to retrieve the bowel a deadly Puff Adder was curled up in the bowel and nearby bit me on the hand. Another time a deadly Boomslang snake came in though the front door of our house in Phalaborwa and reared up to strike me as I knelt down to see what had made a noise under the telephone table. All very close shaves. But I expect many more human snakes have also been trying to get me throughout my life.
