Missing the point Ephesians 6
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Great Sermon! 8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
Regarding cessationism - based on this verse- I think we need to look at the multitude of verses about tongues and the sign gifts. I am rather intrigued by this verse but not convinced that cessationism is the correct biblical conclusion. I will pray about this- as wouldn't want to throw the baby out with the bath water so to speak.
Great Sermon! This is much easier said than done ! So much wisdom here. This is one bible study in which the Kibg James version word charity differs and maybe changes the meaning a little from the other versions ir charity vs love.
Great Sermon! 1 cor 14
( the oft ignored verse)
2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not
unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
Great Sermon! I have to agree with you ( the King James Bible also)- women must not have a teaching role on church. In my area I see lots of pastors wives call themselves pastor - and they are happy to stand in church and teach. This is simply not biblical.
Great Sermon! Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:(romans 3:29); For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath BROKEN DOWN THE MIDDLE WALL of partition between us;
Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain ONE new man, so making peace;(Eph 2:14,15);
For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.
And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.
But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews? Gal 2:12-14);
But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was TO BE BLAMED V.11
Lisa, don't lie there too long. Wilt thou be made whole?(Jn 5:6)
Personally, I believe women should wear hats anytime they assemble at all times.
Great Sermon! I have a tallit ( Jewish prayer shawl) and I would wear it as a covering to certain services - eg if I were at a messianic service where many ladies would wear a tallit also. My tallit has a blue banding that is specific for a lady ( compared to a make tallit). This is not legalistic but something thAt held me to focus on the God of the Jews and it will be my covering when I go home. Thank you for this sermon, it was very helpful discussion of hermeneutics.
Great Sermon! Re evangelising dodgy churches- I left my church ( baptist but dodgy in retrospect was going down the post modern route)- went to dead Anglican - managed it for two years but I have never managed to get back to church - there are too many dodgy churches but also found myself struggling to settle. This is a very relevant message as I know of many Christians that have done just this.
