“ Great Sermon! ”
This was such a helpful series to me a couple years back, thinking through this topic. I would love to see this organized as a “Series” to make it easier to share. (Came back for the link to do just that!)

I love David's ministry, but recent recordings have been poor and very faint, and very difficult to listen to. Is he too far from a microphone, or a digital voice recorder? This does need to be fixed or no one will hear him on SermonAudio. I had the pleasure of attending David's church in Nwew Jersey in 2000, and really want to hear him.

“ Good News ”
What a shame it is that paedobaptists cannot preach this good news. The New Covenant is a better covenant, with better promises, with a better mediator, and with a better membership.

“ Observations ”
Joseph wished to put away Mary for suspected fornication because they were betrothed to each other and their marriage had not yet consummated. This goes along with the excepting clause of Matthew 19:9: "except [it be] for fornication", not for adultery. To rely on liberal PCA scholarship, or on corrupt versions is not advisable. Christ showed disapproval of divorce when he said 'for the hardness of your heart Moses allowed divorce’. Earnest exegesis avoids casuistry. To say God is a divorcee is irreverent. Jeremiah 3 uses a figure of speech, or a strong allegory to show Israel her sin. Though the tribes of Israel ceased to exist, God brought the completion of his plan for his redeemed, in that Christ loved his church and gave himself for it.

“ Great Sermon! ”
Very interesting. I enjoyed it but under a cloud of sadness for that stiff necked mindset in the young church. Good point on the danger of times of transition. Also, those are six good observations by that Pastor Lyons. I understand that it's reported that not a single true believer perished in Jerusalem in its AD 70 destruction, but all heeded Jesus' words in Matthew 24 and did flee so were not imprisoned within the walls for those months of horror. Also makes me wonder if those pharisees held onto their arrogance to their detriment and death. Just wonderings.

It is indeed a marvelous, ordained incident in the early church. Thank you for your wonderful retelling of it, your expounding on it, and your carrying us right into that large room with Peter, Cornelius and the others. I'm grateful to have been raised a Catholic to have been taught about and to be convinced of a supreme Being, but I like Cornelius had devotion for a God I did not know. I guess I was a bad Catholic as I don't recall knowing of the idol and the toe kissing. How truly offensive, vile, and just yucky unsanitary.
