"The Purpose of Whiteside Presbyterian Church is to glorify God by providing a Reformed Christian assembly in which is proclaimed and taught the whole counsel of God, as revealed in His Holy Word, in order to equip the Saints for worship and service within the body, that believers will be lifted up, edified, and encouraged through the Holy Spirit to be obedient to the Word, constant in doctrine and love of one another, and effective in witness that, through Jesus Christ, the kingdom of God will be more fully revealed in this community and throughout the world."
We believe a "reformed Christian assembly" is a church that has it's roots in the historic understanding of the Reformation and the teaching of such men as John Calvin and John Knox. Therefore, we are guided in our understanding of Scripture by The Westminster Confession of Faith, and its Catechisms.
We believe that the Bible is "the whole counsel of God" and it has been "revealed" or given to us as "His Holy Word" from Genesis to Revelation and is important and useful in teaching us about God, His character and truth, His plan of redemption and grace. This “whole counsel of God” is what we preach.
We believe the Bible as the Word of God has been given to us “in order to equip the saints for worship and service within the body.” The saints being those who in this life believe and trust in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, and their primary duty being to worship God and enjoy him though service within His Body.
We hold that “believers will be lifted up, edified, and encouraged through the Holy Spirit to be obedient to the Word.” That they will be lifted up above sin by the truths they learn. That they will be “edified” or taught by God's word and “encouraged” through the Holy Spirit to be better witnesses through obedience to the commands of Jesus Christ.
We desire that the members of this Church will “be constant in doctrine.” That they will receive the teaching of God's truth from His Word and will hold fast to it, in the face of any and all trial and persecution.
We pray that the members of this body will constantly grow in their “love of one another.” That they will show the love of Jesus Christ toward each other and those who come in among us as visitors.
We believe that all who say they trust in Jesus Christ should be “effective in witness.” They they live a life that is pleasing before God the Father in all their dealings with Christian and non-christian alike.
