We are here in West Jefferson, Ohio to carry out the great commission as outlined in the Gospel of Matthew “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20).
We also believe the only way to be saved is by the shed blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. “Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:” (Colossians 1:28).
It is also our desire to see all of God’s elect saved, that they may have eternal life which was promised by our Saviour while he was here on earth during His earthly ministry. “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:14-15).
This Mission is committed to the declaration of all the council of God (Acts 20:27) and to worship the triune God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24) by continuing to steadfastly assemble ourselves together (Hebrews 10:25) under the bylaws of our constitution which we believe to be according to New Testament pattern (Matthew 16:18) in order that the lost might be evangelized (Matthew 28:18-20) as stated above, the saved edified (Ephesians 4:12), and the Lord exalted (Ephesians 3:21).
We look forward to serve as a light in this community for those who desire the truth of God’s Word and who need Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Acts 2:21).
Where We Come From
We were sent out by the authority of our Mother Church The Big Creek Baptist Church of Wayne, West Virginia to start a mission work with a group of 11 people.
The history of the Big Creek Baptist Church is like that of other of God’s churches. That is to say its history is much longer than that of 100 years.
The roots of Big Creek are old and can easily be traced back to a small church in Rockingham County, Virginia called the Lynville Creek Baptist Church. On November 24, 1781 a group of 12 people were given the authority from the Lynville Church and the Greenbrier Baptist Church was formed. It was from this church that many of the Baptist churches in southern West Virginia can be traced including Big Creek Baptist Church.
The first meetings of what is now known as the Big Creek Baptist Church occurred at the Riggs family home on Big Creek in 1896. The Lord is still blessing Big Creek with the work here in West Jefferson.
We started out as a Mission work, but the Lord blessed and we were able to build a building, and October 23, 2021 after 12 years we organized into a Independent New Testament Baptist Church!
