In Romans 1:24-32 the apostle Paul describes the sinful condition of humanity. How remarkable that one aspect of humanity's sinful mindset is that "they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer" (Romans 1:28)! Considered from that perspective, it is not surprising that "God gave them over to a depraved mind" (also verse 28). Paul then gives a list of twenty-one characteristics of those with a depraved mind, plus a final accusation that "although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them" (Romans 1:32).
Paul claims that people know about God from creation (Romans 1:19-21) and they also know that certain sins are worthy of God's judgment in death. Even with all this knowledge, people cheer on others, affirming them in their disobedience to our Lord and turning from Him.
Praise the Lord that His grace triumphs even over depraved minds! It is a good reminder that it is not our persuasive logic and reasoning, but the work of the Holy Spirit using God's Word as we share it with others, even when we stumble over words or mispronounce something. God is glorified when He uses redeemed sinners - imperfect as we are - to proclaim the gospel to other sinners.
