Jesus teaches us perspective much wider than our pain. After giving the greatest sermon in world history, Jesus got into a boat to cross the Sea of Galilee. His disciples followed Him. Jesus knew that a great storm would arise on the sea that would swamp the boat. Yet, with trust in His Father's care and providence, He slept peacefully. Disciples follow Jesus, sometimes right into a storm. We are in the same boat. As the ruler of nature, God ordains or permits wind and waves to come. Satan may have tried to make evil use of it, but God meant it for good. Nothing can touch His children unless He wills it. And He wills it only for our eternal good. "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness." (James 1:2-3) . Jesus was awakened by His very frightened disciples: "Save us, Lord; we are perishing." They panicked so much that seasoned fishermen call upon a carpenter! And He said to them, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?" Then He rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. Jesus is in our hearts, and He is our safety. We are not saved by seamanship, but by having the Lord on board. Courage, beloved. Courage! Let the waves swell and the winds howl. The Lord of hosts is with us!
