Paul has spent much time defining and defending the gospel. After reviewing Abraham’s justification by faith before God, Paul moves on to Moses and explains the law which was handed down on Mount Sinai. Paul makes good use of the OT as he quotes Deuteronomy 27:26 in v. 10, Habakkuk 2:4 in v. 11, Leviticus 18:5 in v. 12, Deuteronomy 21:23 in v. 13. The Judaizers were striving to be made right with God through Jesus plus the works of the law. These two cannot be mixed. As we will see later, the law was our schoolmaster to lead us to Christ. In Galatians 3:10-14, Paul explains the two ways in which people try to be accepted with God. Actually, there are only two ways in the entire world—by 1) works of the law or 2) by faith in Christ’s finished work. The religious system of the world can be identified as falling into these two categories. One leads to condemnation and a dead end in hell. The other leads to justification and life in heaven. This message is vitally important to understand. Who or what are you depending on today? Let us heed the message of the Apostle Paul. My title today will be Curse or Blessing: Which are you under? I want to discuss the difference between those trying to earn salvation yet are under the curse and those who place their faith in Christ and are under the blessing of God.
