"I can't stand people whose friendship lasts only as long a your money!" "She's really low-class; she sleeps around." "Homosexuals are disgusting!" "I hate out-of-control kids!"
These thoughts and many more course through the minds of fallen people. Our eyes are skilled at identifying the most subtle hints of sin in other people and being disgusted by it, yet in our own hearts, remarkably, it is invisible.
God's Word has a way of setting us up into a position where we are most likely to be convicted of personal sin. Here in Romans 2, we have come to the point where we have been presented with the shocking details of the lives of sinners in Gods world. But suddenly, as we stand with our fingers pointed at them in disgust, God shows us that this is an accurate description of our hearts too. We are not outside of the charge, we are included. If I am disgusted by what I see in the lives of the money lovers, the promiscuous, the sexually perverted and others, I should immediately look at myself with that sense of disgusted outrage.
