We are a nation where people do not rule. Laws rule. Laws that have been enacted by the legislature. Theoretically every person is to be subservient to the rule of law. No one is to be 'above' the law or work 'outside of' the law, but all are under the law as 'law rules.' Now when mankind failed to respond by faith in the promises of God, God established the Mosaic Law as a means of governing His household. They were expected to live under the rule of Law, obey the commands of God, and enjoy God's rewards. Some partially succeeded. They understood the need for a humble, contrite spirit and faith in God as they obeyed the Lord. But most failed miserably as they sought to make up their own rules or as they rebelled against God's standards and did just the opposite. As a result God's judgment came upon the nation in the form of dispersion among the Gentile nations. Today, we are not under the Mosaic Law but rather the Law of Christ! His commands are simple: Love God and love others. And if we do so, we will fulfill the rule of Law.
