As parents we learn to utilize the power of a promise to motivate our children. . 'If thy behave and don't act up, then we can plan to do something fun together.' Many left their homeland in Europe to come to the new world on the strength of the promise of a better life. The Power of Promise. God makes a unilateral, unconditional promise to Abraham and his descendants. He promises them a land-- the land of Palestine; a seed or a heir from which would come a great nation, the nation of Israel. And He promises Abram to bless him greatly, and not just him, but through him the world would be blessed. The only 'If', the only thing God asks of Abram is for him to trust God to keep His promises. At times Abram did trust God and stayed in the land; but at other times, when his faith was tested, he failed. When it came to the promise of an heir, Abraham again had a mixed recorded in trusting God to fulfill His promise. The promise made to Abraham and his descendants has never fully been fulfilled and thus awaits a future fulfillment in the Millennial Messianic Kingdom when Israel will fully occupy the promised land, when Jesus Christ will rule on the David throne, and when they will experience God's bountiful blessing and be a blessing to the rest of the world. But God still uses the power of a promise to motivate and encourage us today. And the only thing God asks of us is to TRUST HIM to fulfills His promises to us.
