We continue our series through Isaiah this week, looking at Isaiah 9-12. These chapters begin with words of judgment against Israel and Assyria, but they develop into words of hope and joy as the Lord promises the return of a remnant of his people and the sprouting forth of a shoot from the stump of Jesse. The coming of this new king will announce the dawn of a new day when the Lord's people will sing a new song– "Behold, God is my salvation." Under the Lord's sovereign and righteous reign, we can be sure that all sin, oppression and injustice will be brought to justice. He will have it no other way. But his 'way' is one which brings comfort and joy to sinners who turn to him in repentance and faith so that we too can sing, "Behold, God is my salvation… my strength and my song."
