The crowd on Mount Carmel was not rejecting Yahweh or Baal wholly. As noncommittal functional polytheists, they believed that both gods might be worshiped. Elijah challenged them, "How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him." And the people did not answer him a word. Tragically today, most do not worship the God of the Bible. They worship something they or someone else has created. It is called idolatry. But God is a Jealous God. He wants all of our love. He is either Lord of all or not lord at all. The Lord Jesus said, "You can't serve two masters." The Puritans used to say, "You cannot serve God by halves." Are you on the fence? How many more Sundays must go by without your absolute and unconditional surrender to God? How many warnings, how many more funerals? Today is the day of salvation. Jesus says to you today, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment." Those with ears to hear, let them hear.
