False teachers may often appear to be quite successful while teachers of the truth struggle and even appear to fail as they remain faithful. After sounding his warning to the church to beware of false teachers infiltrating the church, he makes two points to emphasize and illustrate from history why the church is to be on the alert. First, as he draws from known biblical history, he brings to the fore the fact that God does not spare the wicked from judgment in His time no matter who they are or how many there are. Second, he brings into the discussion the fact that God has and does deliver the righteous no matter who they are or how few they may be. Point being, false teachers will never be an exception to God's judgment.
