This passage continues the account of the second generation crossing the Jordan River. God has acted in a mighty way to bring them into the Promised Land. They must never forget what God has done for them. They must teach it to their children. This is both the proper response to God's saving acts and a defense against our own sinful forgetfulness. As we hear again of God's wondrous work on behalf of Israel, we must direct our attention and worship to Jesus Christ, whom God has highly exalted. Jesus has overcome death, sin, and hell. His saving work must be the constant refrain of our thoughts and lives.
