The New Testament gives abundant evidence that women were both welcome and extremely useful in the ministry of the church. Therefore, when we read this passage which prohibits women teaching or being in authority over men, we know it is due to something other than alleged first century prejudice and chauvinism. The reasons are two-fold: 1) Adam was created first, then Eve. 2) Eve was deceived; not Adam. Those are two permanently relevant, timeless and unalterable facts that form the basis of Paul's argument. It matters not whether a woman is a good speaker, whether she is godly, whether she feels called to be a pastor, or whether there are no men to lead. The text is clear.
