Thesis: Sin, and our sense of right and wrong, have muddied the clarity of the gospel with guilt, but the truth of the gospel calls us to rest in God's finished work for us - reconciling gospel facts, emotions and life.
1. IF GOD FOR US, WHO AGAINST US (v. 31) * Doesn't appeal to God's power, but his love * Chose us over His Son ! !
2. WHO CAN CHARGE GOD'S ELECT (v. 33) * God is the one who justifies * God's elect have been loved from eternity * grace alone, faith alone, Christ alone * excuses, apologies, explanations cannot trump faith in Christ as justification
3. WHO CAN CONDEMN US (v. 34) * Christ paid for sin - eliminating guilt * Christ kep law for us perfectly * Christ rose from dead to prove accepted sacrifice * Christ acsended = to place of honor * Christ intercedes for us - has Father's ear
4. WHO CAN SEPARATE US FROM CHRIST'S LOVE (v. 35) * Victory was won - can't be reversed * Nothing is all creation can nullify his victory for us - he created everything
CONCLUSION: God is sovereign over bad things and is working them for good. Those good things will never be taken away. And the best things are yet to come!
