Since the first appearing of Christ we have been living in the last days. In 1 John 2:15-27 John confirms we are living in this epoch on account of the coming of 'many antichrists'– those who deny the Father and the Son, his Christ. However, the presence of these liars should not evoke fear or doubt in the children of God. After all, claims John, we know the truth! It abides in us by the anointing of the Spirit who teaches us about everything.
Many live today in fear and therefore seek to gain as much as they can for themselves, whether it be through pleasure, possessions or pride in order to alleviate their fear and secure themselves in this life. The problem is though, these are not from the Father and they are all passing away. They will never satisfy. Instead, as we abide in the truth of Christ, we can know and rest in the promise of God– eternal life. Christ alone can grant to us both contentment in these last days, and confidence for the day he appears again.
