Sermon Lesson 95 John 19:38-42 Jesus is The King Part 7 The King is Buried
As God moves His Son from humiliation toward glory, so He moves us! Joseph of Arimathea acquires the body of Jesus (38) A secret disciple boldly asks for the body of Jesus (38a) A willing Pilate grants the request (38b) Nicodemus brings expensive spices for Jesus' burial (39) Another secret disciple obtains expensive spices (39a) He brings them to use on Jesus (39b) Joseph and Nicodemus lavishly prepare the body of Jesus (40) They took the body of Jesus (40a) They bound in linen cloths with the spices (40b) Joseph and Nicodemus bury Jesus in a new, unused tomb (41-42) There was a garden in the place where He was crucified (41a) In the garden there was a new, unused tomb (41b) Because of time and location, they buried Jesus there (42) Applications God moves secret disciples to speak out! Our worship should be extravagant! We need to pursue our sanctification—our walking in newness of life! Romans 6:3-5 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
