In this second message in a series from John 17, we see our great high priest interceding for His own, and in fact, He 'ever lives to make intercession for them.' It is not necessary to imagine Him constantly verbally interceding: 'Father, forgive them for their pride, their selfishness, their laziness,' etc. His very wounds are a silent plea to the Father to be continually gracious to us. When the chief prosecutor (B. Elzebub of the firm Dewey Hatem and Howe) accuses one of us to the Father, the living Christ is there to intercede: 'I died for that sin too.' And our judge can declare, whatever the charge: 'I find the defendant NOT GUILTY BY REASON OF SUBSTITUTION. The sins for which you accuse Him were already paid for. He has suffered the punishment, in the person of his substitute, the Lamb of God.'
