The Spirit of God gives a special enablement to every person who and when they become a believer. This enablement is a gift given to the individual who is placed into the body of Christ to be used for the benefit and edification of the other members of the body of Christ. The varieties of these gifts of enablement contribute to the functioning and unity of the church, universal and local. No believer is overlooked or bypassed but each one is gifted by God as the Spirit of God so determines so no believer is a bystander in the church. Giftedness is not earned or attained by human efforts nor divinely assigned according to any human merit or status. Some gifts were given as the church began for the laying of the foundation of the church. With that having been laid the church is being built up from the foundation by the gifts now given while those gifts used in the laying of the foundation no longer being given. Each individual believer is responsible and accountable for the use of the gifts they have been given where God has placed them and when in the history of the church.
