Disciples of Jesus will experience rejection, ridicule, and slander in seeking to live the good, Christ-like life. While not every moment involves such suffering, Peter wants us to see the blessing that comes to those who are made like the Suffering Servant. To view even trial and pain as part of a blessed life requires that we rest under the care of a sovereign and gracious God, being formed by his word and not this world. Yet, because we live in the world, we must be ready to give a reason for the hope that we have, a hope given to us through the resurrected Christ himself. As we defend the faith, we ought embody Christ with gentleness and respect towards those made in his image, all the while keeping our eyes on him and walking by faith and not by sight.
