God the Father gave Jesus supremacy by virtue of the sacrifice He made Him to be Lord with all authority (Matthew 28:18, John 5:27). This authority extended to both the dead and the living (Romans 14:9). Human words fail us as we try to describe Jesus’ authority. One might say that He is as the Greeks say, hyperano (Ephesians 4:10) SUPER-EMINENTLY EXALTED. He became the object of worship for the church. He became the Master instead of the servant. The genuine Church looks to him as our Lord. All this is a result of God’s exalting the humble, obedient Son. As the obedient and humble Son He did not cling to His prior authority as God during His first advent (Philippians 2:6). Jesus set them aside to take on earthly flesh and perform the work He was sent in this earth for. He carried out the plan of salvation so that we who believe that He is who He said He was can benefit immeasurably.
