Jonah is a great book, actually I say a great book, because the book itself describes great times, a whole nation repents!
Christ uses the story of Jonah to describe that He was even greater than Jonah!
Jonah was a a prophet from Gath Hepher, a town in lower Galilee, about 2 miles north west of Nazareth. Gath Hepher was within the tribal territory of Zebulun.
We know that Jonah served around 793-753 B.C.during the reign of King Jeroboam 2nd.
The Lord used him to prophecy to the Israelites a message of hope, and restoration.
So the Word of the Lord came to Jonah, affirming Jonah’s divine calling by God and set of approval as a Prophet.
God was using Jonah’s disobedience for His Kingdom purpose, He used his disobedience, to turn it into good!
It is a good reminder that when we are unfaithful God remains faithful.
Even when we find ourselves in moments or places of disobedience, or in hardships even when our lives are on the line, as a child of God, God in His sovereignty could use all that happens for our good, for His purpose, and for His glory. |
