It was a fearful sight for Christian and Hopeful to see a man being dragged away to hell. He had travelled so far on the road, but now he had been bound and expelled in grief and misery. This is Mr. Turn-Away from the town of Apostasy. He was LOST.
While apostasy is a fearful reality, Christians need to be reminded that not every Christian who falls into sin is necessarily an apostate. I fear we may sometimes be too quick to tie the "apostate" lable on the toe of a struggling Christian and slam his mortuary drawer. Maybe he is just LITTLE, like Little Faith, not LOST.
Here Bunyan extends this contrast, encouraging us to care for believers who could be called Little Faith. Christians who struggle under the attack of Faint Heart, Mistrust and Guilt. As it was in the case of John Bunyan himself, this is often a necessary part of the Christian journey.
This message is intended to caution you if you are over-zealous in your theology so that you write off Christians that you should be caring for. This message is to encourage you if your experience of the Christian faith can best be described as Little Faith. This message is intended to encourage compassion and caution when dealing with our brothers and sisters in Christ.
