But as those who trust in the merit of Christ and Christ alone, when we confess our sins, we have full assurance that God will pardon us. And this confession is not a one-time prayer but a lifestyle of repentance. Ongoing confession of sin is a defining characteristic of what it means to 'walk in the light.' John tells us that God is faithful and just to forgive – that means He will never turn the repentant sinner away – He will forgive, and more importantly, He can forgive because of what Christ has done for us."
