II. The Principle of Separation Stated Twice 6:14; 7:1
Jeremiah 31:31-34
There is no “remnant” in the church as there was in Israel. Israel was physically set apart from the other nations. Israel was physically isolated from the other nations – and when they weren't being isolated – the other nations were often being used by God to chastise Israel for her disobedience.
Much of the separation of Israel from the world is not going to apply to our separation as Christians in the world.
III. The Old Testament Context
A. I will make my dwelling with them.
2 Cor. 6:16 with Leviticus 26:11-12 We can see this “dwelling with us” in at least 3 different stages. 1. At the incarnation -- John 1:14 2. During this present age -- Ephesians 3:17 3. In the hereafter -- Rev. 21:3
B. “I will be their God and they shall be my people”.
C. The Issue of “Separation”. V. 17
D. The OT Promises Applied to Us 6:17b-18
1. I will receive (welcome) – Ezekiel 20:34 2. I will be a Father to you – 2 Samuel 7:14 3. You shall be my sons and daughters – Isaiah 43:6
