This morning I am to speak to you about words. Would you like a little challenge? Define what a word is. Noah Webster's 1828 dictionary says it is, and I quote, "An articulate or vocal sound, or a combination of articulate and vocal sounds, uttered by the human voice, and by custom expressing an idea or ideas; a single component part of human speech or language." So, the sound 'a' can convey the meaning of a word or simply an expression. When we say 'a' house, it is used as an indefinite article. When we articulate it with more sounds, say 'Adam', now we have a noun, a proper noun and the idea expressed is entirely different.
