Today I will continue our sermon series which is an expository study through the book of Ecclesiastes. We find ourselves in the second section of the book, which is where Solomon seeks to prove the assertion he made in the first section. Having explored the meaning of life “under the sun” through the lens of wisdom, Solomon then turned his attention to, and gave his heart over to every conceivable pleasure. And once again he reveals that he came up absolutely empty! Although God designed us for pleasure, seeking pleasure for “pleasure's sake” while living in a fallen world is absolute vanity. In this sermon I will develop what he says about his pursuit of pleasure, and there are few in human history that had the privileges of Solomon. But even the pursuit of pleasure “under the sun” did not satisfy the deepest longings of his heart. Following the exposition I will make some detailed application. Once again it is my prayer is that the Lord will be pleased to bless the preaching of His word as we continue this important study.
